With that being said, what made BMW such a great brand was the fact you got both sportiness and luxury in perfect harmony. Unfortunately Hyundai is at a position in the market where they will never be able to put a nice interior in a car. And for as impressive the Genesis G70 is as a first effort compact luxury sport sedan, it still comes up short in that category. The interior design and some of the material choices are just a turn-off for me.

With that being said, if the G70 proves to have a great reliability record then it could very well become an attractive buy. BMWs self-implode out of warranty and become more headache than they are worth.
Honestly the G70's interior is pretty on par with the G20 in most of the important areas. The napa leather seats look and feel great, the dash is covered in a good amount of leatherette, and unlike the 3er they actually pad the side of the center console with soft materials for a knee rest. Only let downs for me were the navigation head unit and some of the switchgear not feeing as tactile, other than that, I think its pretty nice considering the $15k delta between the two, not to mention I think the 3er is pretty cheap for its class when it comes to interior and materials, my son's Mazda6 Signature feels more luxurious than a G20. But that's just my opinion.

Agree, had an M340i loaner ($68k) and the interior wasn't impressive in looks or materials.

BMW doesn't even do Dakota anymore to my knowledge. Vernasca is nice enough in the 3-series price range. BMW interiors are definitely built to a higher standard than most competitors. Audi and Porsche are right there, everybody else is a cut below in my opinion.

To each his own opinion but I find Vernasca to be essentially a variant of Dakota, nowhere close to Nappa.

just bought a 86 TRD to tide me over for a while, this car is really fun in the mountains, thats all we use it for

I went on a test drive of a veloster N yesterday. It was a lot of fun, especially for a front wheel drive car. Decent power, good steering, good grip, fun sounds. Obviously a budget car on the interior. I'm not sure when the veloster is due for an overhaul but I would hope the interior would improve. I've not driven every bmw these days, but it wouldn't surprise me if only the M2 could match the fun factor.

I wish Hyundai gave us the Euro I30N Hatchback and Sportback (Elantra) which is the nicer and more "mature-looking" version of the Veloster N.

The i30 is quite popular here in Germany. I see a lot of them on the roads in many flavors, including the 5 door wagon model.

Give it a generation or so. Three-door FWD hatchbacks could be about ready to expire just like the two-door FWD coupes have. Although the MINI Cooper three-door sometimes seems like it will be around in the same form in a hundred years (except it'll run on electrons, and it'll drive for you).

I flirted with getting a Veloster N.

It's an absolute blast to drive. The N Mode exhaust has way too many pops and bangs for my taste but it has an individual mode to fix that. The handling and direct feel of the car was incredible though.

The interior on the other hand was pretty terrible. EVERYTHING is hard black plastic and its cheap looking plastic too. They at least could put some padding on the arm rests or something. Interior alone turned me off from buying it. It was big step down from my 128i which isn't a luxury interior by any means.

I will say, the seats were very nice. Perfect amount of bolster and the cloth was comfortable and felt like it would hold up well. I second the poster that mentioned the i30N fastback. They should bring that to the US.

I definitely find it to be softer and more luxurious than Nappa. And regardless it's all relative to the competition. Go to a Mercedes dealer and 95% of their C-class models on the lot have shitty Mb-Tex.

So I would probably never own one of these to be honest. It's the wrong wheel drive. Should be rear, not front. But if you're swayed towards the front, than this is pretty damn cool:

I'm usually not a FWD fan but hot hatches always have a place in my heart due to their playful and inexpensive nature. I love the Veloster N, it really shows Biernmann's excellent lead on the brand, now all they need to do is build this -> https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...ne-rm19-drive/

I personally have a ton of respect for what Hyundai has done. The 1986 excel was one of the biggest shit boxes ever and 40 years later they are building cars that rival the worlds best.

How anyone could have anything negative to say about the addition of a well priced performance car boggles my mind.

I am seriously hoping Genesis comes out with the long awaited sports coupe, likely based on the G70 and marketed as a GT70.
Guaranteed to feature a better nose than the G22.

That would be awesome, I do have a feeling that it could possibly also be a mode that never comes to fruition, but the same was said about a wagon and just this month a G70 wagon was spied testing (although likely for Europe only). Either way, I do hope for the best for Genesis, they make some great products.

Gonna have to wait 25 years for that to happen sadly.

We are going to get the sedans. The new S3 sedan looks great, with the exception of fake vents out back.

Yeah the RS3 is a great performing car for... double the price of a Veloster N.
If you want a S3 hatch why not get a golf R?
