iOS12

Just updated yesterday and my X feels faster and longer battery life. Seems older devices benefit even more. Makes upgrading to the XS not really worth it unless you're going for the Max. What do you guys think? I notice fewer typos or incorrect spell correction while typing as well.

A few friends of mine updated their iphone 6 and it is running much faster than before and really breathe life into their old phones.

I think it is awesome that Apple is working on improving the performance of 5-6 year old phones. Apple prices their phones at a premium but you get premium service for the price.

With the $30 new battery replacement deal and iOS12, they are making old iphones viable for a long time. What other phone company is working on improving the performance of old phones?

Keeping old phones alive is better than recycling. Is anyone still using a Samsung phone from 2013? Most likely it's no longer supported and can't run the latest version of Android.

My 8 seems a bit faster, although I'm still having the occasional glitch where the phone closes out of whatever I'm in and goes back to the home screen.

Yeah it's not too often but when it does happen it can be annoying. I was using Google maps in the car the other day and the thing closed out of the maps completely. Then I'm trying to pull the maps back up on my phone and the magnet mount falls out of the vent and the phone goes under the seat.

I was playing around with the new measuring tool in a boring meeting today. At first I was wondering how I got a measuring app. I know I didn't download one. Then I figured out it must have come with the update to iOS12. It works pretty well. I pointed it at a standard piece of copier paper and it read the dimensions as 8-1/2 by 11. Not sure I'll have much use for it, but it might come in handy once in a while.

I don't know what I would do with nine 1/2" dicks.

My SE sped up a LOT using IOS 12 so I bought a bigger one (was always running out of space on the 64GB one).

I've been playing around with it on my iphone X for a while. The measuring is only accurate on flat surfaces or measuing in 2 dimensions. It has a lot of trouble measuring 3D objects and is often not accurate.

I tried measuring a box that is 8"x8"x10"... it came out to 5"x7"x10". Only the edge that was facing the camera was measured correctly. I tried another box that was 10x14x22.. it came out as 7x10x19... totally off.

So a limitation to be aware of... 2d measuring seems to work ok but I would still use a actual measuring tape to be sure.

I wouldn't rely on it for precise measurement. I wish they would include the aperture adjustment editing tool in the photo app for all phones not just the Xs. I was hoping I could do that on my x for portrait photos. I'll be getting the Xs max tomorrow so I'll let you know how well it works. To be honest I think the camera on the Xs is overhyped it's not that great since it's just a cell phone camera and only 12 megapixels. They can say what they want but there are limits to what you can do with that.

Used SE must be pretty cheap now. Might want to get a new battery also. They are ending the $30 deal this month.

The 64 GB is already a little faster than the 16 GB one, isn't that what you felt?
The read or write speed is slightly faster but wouldn't make that much difference in everyday use.

Bought a brand new one with 2 year warranty from a department store here in the UK.

I updated the 64GB from 11.4.1 to 12 and it instantly sped up so bought the bigger one and did the same to that.

My iPhone 6plus was running really well on iOS 12. I'm writing this from my new XSMax and I might not keep it since the improvements don't seem worth it if my old one is running well.

Apparently my Apple ID was hijacked yesterday. While getting my phone fixed at the AT&T store, the tech recommended I do not install iOS 12 till about October 1, to make sure there's no more bugs to work out

My old SE shows 1% battery after upgrade all day long.
Verizon offered $100 for trade in - I'd rather keep it, looks like perpetuum mobile to me now.
