TV Gurus Needed
ok, i've been thinking of upgrading my TV for about 6 months now.
i got it back in 2008 - it was poretty much Samsung's top of the line 120hz TV when i got it (freaking $2600). it's the 52" Samsung LN52A650 TOC 120hz. ok, so i'm in love with my TV because it goes perfect with all my other home theater stuff in the living room (i don't have a dedicated home theater room so the kids are spoiled in the living room). the HD quality and the Bluray quality is rediculously crisp - the TV was calibrated as well. i'm looking for a 60-65" LED, but here's the question - what TV does has the same or even BETTER picture quality than my old A650 !?!? i don't want to sacrafice size for quality. i'll gladly keep my 52" if it means that i get to enjoy my absolutely stunning picture quality. and yes, i would be willing to switch brands eventhough i'm a Sammy nut hugger. any advice or thoughts !?!? p.s. not willing to go projector |

-more vivid picture quality due to LED technology -better blacks in all aspects -the option of viewing 3d shows. glasses for samsung cost ~30 per pair. -samsung smart tv widgets and apps -240 refresh rate vs your 120 now. -the 8k series has a great look to it also, whereas yours might be alittle on the bulky side. the UN60 and UN65, same thing just 60" vs 65". If you arent looking into the 3d technology, the Sharp Quattron technology TV are something to look into also I like them and the 100 dollar pay that they give me each time i sell one isn't bad either.. |

My parents just decked their media room for teenage brother with a new 65" Samsung Plasma 3D TV. The picture is amazing and like all new Samsungs it's extremely slim and badass looking. I'd look into that. Although I do believe it comes at a price...

OP, this is what you need. On this forum you might get great advise, but most of it will be personal opinion (10% great / 90% not-so-great). On AVS forum you'll get lots of great advises and will learn a lot at the same time. While learning, you might even re-think what you're looking for. So, got there, read, learn, aks.

Another thing OP. If the tv is in a bright room, you might want to consider an LED. If it is dark, then plasma. I recommend you talk to one of the guys selling the TVs at wherever your buying it. And if you need an hdmi coord, check out monoprice.com. Don't buy from best buy, it's too overpriced. |

They went with 3D just to try it out. But I'm not able to check the number on the tv for you. I live 2 hours away. Just buy the nicest large Samsung LED TV and call it a day IMO.

Samsung has deviated more of its time into LED technology which they are great at meanwhile panasonic has stuck to Plasma technology and they are damn good at it. If you are looking for a movie like experience, and are more concerned with sports and games, I'd say go with a panasonic GT, ST, OR VT (if money allows for VT) as they are top notch. With 3d, Id say go for it as it is the future and they are nothing like 3D in theatres that give you that headache. I could watch active 3d all day without headaches vs the passive 3d crap at theathres. As for the LED TV's, I'd Personally rate them the Samsung UN 65 or 60, both same. Then the sharp, if you are going with the sharp go with the 70" to be the biggest and brightest on the block. Next year, the 80" sharp is coming out aswell. |

Unless you are wanting to invest in the 3d technology. The UN60D800 will run you about the same price as the 70" Sharp. With the 70", the thing is a beast and a half. The samsung does have amazing black contrast but the Sharp is no far from it and if you arent looking for 3d, why pay for it. |

I just got the pn59d8000 and it's awesome. My brother has the un55d8000. Both are sweet but I think mine looks better especially the black lvls. But you can't go wrong either way.

the MASSIVE difference is the jump from 60 to 120 but from 120 to 240, your not gonna notice much. Also with the higher refresh rates, sometimes it makes images feel more unreal or action scenes look sort of fake. The processed images look better in 120 hz imo. This is the one your looking for: http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/Home...C70LE732U.aspx I believe the price will be dropping come around thanksgiving and xmas as they are trying to make alittle room for 80". Best bet would to go to Sears. Sears is one of the last commission paying stores and from that stems a better service with purchasing TV. Let them know off the bat you are looking for the Sharp 70 and they will be all over you. There are great deals at times, right now is 5% off with sears card or 18 months no interest. Buy the TV, get it price matched to make sure you are paying the lowest. Also, depending on if you are a warranty type of person, Sears seems to offer one of the better warranty's on the market. But beside the TV and the warranty, dont buy any thing else. HDMI cables are price 30+ there, . Everything else besides the TV, buy online. Check Amazon also if they have it, they usually are one of the cheapest. |

i had to explain the differences about 20 times on other forums because not many people knew what a 120hz TV looked like back in 2008. from 60 to 120hz is rediculous. from 120hz to 240hz the human eye can't pick up the differences. Quote:
i wouldn't imagine having to go out and buy more just because i changed TV's.... |
