Buying PS3...Damn GT5 lol

You know, this is gonna sound somewhat racist (but believe me it's not...), but it's just an observation I've noticed: The vast majority of people on this board are Asian, and, from what I've seen, Asian gamers tend to have a large bias for the Playstation brand. I'm just callin it like I see it...

I think the 360 has better games, so that's why I haven't bought a PS3 yet.

The 360 has been out longer. Give the game developers using the PS3 platform time and the games will be better than the 360. The PS3 has more capabilities but the designers don't know to fully utilize them all.

While I agree that a lot of Asians are gamers, I don't see the bias for the PS brand other than they want it for certain titles that come out such as GT5. Everyone I know (I know quite a few asians) has a 360 if they have any game station at all. There is no bias for video game consoles man, if they have good games, it will sell.

I say a lot of asians are into more up to date technology. The PS3 is a value Blu-Ray player, don't forget that.

That said, I don't even have a PS3 yet.

It's just an observation of what I've seen. That's all. No hard proof to back up what I'm saying, I'll say that right now. It's not supposed to be discriminatory or anything, it's just that I usually see that many Asian kids that I know tend to prefer the Playstation brand over the 360. I don't know why, that's just what I've seen.

I disagree on the better games, actually. Perhaps during the first year of the 360's launch, but since then, not really. Halo 3, Bioshock and Gears of War in nearly 3 years the 360 has been out doesn't make me want to go out and buy one (besides, I can play Bioshock and Gear on my PC). Perhaps Mass Effect, but rumor has it and its sequels are headed to the PS3 (source: story on N4g.com). Most games today are multi-platform anyways, like CoD4 and the upcoming GTAIV.

PS3 has Motorstorm, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, Unreal Tournament III, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, MLB 08: The Show and others. Looking to 2008, it's no contest, Sony will have better exclusives than 360, with GT5: Prologue, Haze, Metal Gear Solid 4 (!), Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and more I can't remember now. And early 2009 will bring God of War 3, Final Fantasy, The Getaway and of course the long awaited full version of Gran Turismo 5. A lot to look forward to, which explains I think why PS3 has outsold the 360 in the US for the past two months. The Blu-Ray player is just icing on the cake.

I have been very close to buying a 360 a few times, so I could play its exclusives, but two things have kept me back: 1) The build quality and reliability of the console (reports has it has over a 33% failure rate) and 2) paying for xbox live, which should be free in my opinion. Also, I have a distinct feeling that M$ will come out with an updated xbox fairly soon that will make existing 360s inferior. This is based on a rumor, but knowing M$, I would not doubt it. It's just the way they operate (XP > Vista btw).

Dude. It's subjective. The first step to benefitting in this situation as a consumer is admitting that. I personally don't like a good 90% of the exclusives you posted up there, as I've said it's a matter of taste and opinion. I'm only interested in MGS4, KZ2, and GT5. Once a price drop takes place I'll go and buy one for those three things and for its Blu-Ray player. That's about it.

I'm not a Sony fanboy either, I also go where the games are. In fact, this is the first gaming generation that I haven't owned all of the lead consoles (no 360). I don't HATE the 360 and would own one in a second if I wasn't so concerned about it's build quality. Like cars, I hate cheap products and when you see most of your friends who own a 360 having to have theirs replaced at least once and some twice due to the dreaded RROD, it's a bit scary. At least M$ finally admitted there was a problem and extended the warranty for launch consoles for 3 years for failures due to RROD. I fear its an inherent design flaw, however, hence my suspicions that the 360 will be replaced by M$ with a more advanced machine before the end of its normal 5-6 or so year cycle.

I have to say that the RRoD are pissing me off. I had to replace my box once. Then the new one worked for a good year and a half no probs, then bam. RRoD again...and I wasn't even home. Some friends were playin it while I was out. I don't even feel like replacing it right now. I don't want to have anything to do with videogames for a long, loooong time. Though that's kind of a hypocritical statement for me because I just started playin Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Still, there was a time where I was a bit of a fanboy and I played way too many videogames. I'm so glad I cut that habit. I wasted so much of my life doing all that stuff that I'm actually kinda depressed thinking about it as I'm typing this right now lol. From like 12-16 years old...way too obsessed. Typical gamer. Then I saw the light. That light happened to be blue and white and in the shape of a roundel.

The only PS3 for sale now is the 40GB. It is not backwards compatible as that was one of the things sacrificed to bring down the price.

I have both. Hardware of PS3 is superior, but that's not always going to win the battle. See original Xbox. Personally, I play the Xbox for the multiplayer games. XBL is superior to the PSN for multiplayer gaming. I do play the PS3 for single player games (Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword), but I end up buying the 360 for games I plan to play multiplayer.

How about not caring what's "better" and just get what you like. Sounds like a good idea to me. Not everything you own has to be better than everyone elses. I bet you I could have TONS of fun on an NES. Is it technically better than a PS3 or 360? No, but if it's fun who cares, right?

The 80 gig version is backwards compatible. It's being phased out (I THINK--Sony hasn't announced whether it will replace it or not with another backwards compatible version) but you should still be able to find it.

i was hoping to get it through non-ebay but i guess it's either buy it from e-bay and enjoy ps2 games or buy 40gig and wait til GT5 comes out...

Both the 60 and the 80 gig are backward compatible. The 40 gig is the version that's not.
