Couple sets up GoFundMe for homeless man, keeps the money.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have laughed at this but I'm making no apologies for it.

They did buy a BMW however so at least it's on point with the forums?

Having read the article, the couple claims that they bought the guy a trailer, or something, but they parked it on their driveway, and wouldn't give the guy any money, claiming that the guy was using it on meth. Either way, the guy ended up back on the street, and go-fund-me is investigating the couple to find out what they did, or are doing with the money. My take is that the couple didn't expect such a large contribution, and got greedy. Unfortunate situation.

Damn, probably weren’t expecting anywhere near 400k. Hopefully it was at least an M car.

Yup, 5 seconds after the page opened my AV blocked something. :

Yes, they do. Tell a good sob story, pulling on various heartstrings, and you, too, can get money from gofundme.

Like every 'charity' make sure you investigate how you are giving your money to.

"A fool and his money are soon parted" should be the motto for GoFundMe.

Murky situation.

They shouldn't keep the money, but should he?
He's already sold the camper for drug money.

Well what in the Hell were the people who donated expecting? That he'd get all that money and just turn his life around? He'd suddenly get cleaned up, buy some clothes, shave, land a job, buy a condo, and become a "normal" member of society? I'll be 9 out of every 10 people who contributed would list "Pretty Woman" as their all time favorite movie.

He's homeless for a reason and it's not lack of money. Nothing against the guy but that's the facts. He's likely not a bad guy but he does make bad choices and all the money in the world wont help that. He doesn't have a money problem, he has a drug problem and possibly mental illness.

Then just give it all back to whomever donated. But not giving it to the bum, and the other party keeping it, that's not a solution either. Donate it to a local charity?

If you donated to that campaign then you don't deserve that money in the first place. Better off donating to charity than giving $200k to one homeless person who will probably end up with no money on the streets again.

Well, I’m thinking donations on GoFundMe are treated like irrovocable gifts, so once you’ve donated, you’re not entitled to the money back, regardless of what the donee does with the money. No different than donating to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or the Red Cross.
