We all have our version of American football, you just added an other player, we actually know what a ball should look like so as entertainment for those who are not too busy driving around in series people do follow, they rather carry around their spouses than spend their time with a game so wrongly named.

I do understand the ice hockey conversation is still bugging you and I will be ready and waiting when your slow defense system fails again in the next big games to continue this fascinating conversation about a game that takes more skill and speed people who play with a "ball" can possibly see as needed. After all, your best athletes seem to be hunting balls, that are shaped like my uncle if he ever tried to carry my rather large aunt.

Just to make you feel better over the sad fact that I have never heard of the "famous" Canadian athletes, and to be a good sport, I will now reveal my vast knowledge of all sport related heroes of my country.

A person who is dear to me asked me a while back if anyone famous has ever come from Finland. My answer was naturally A. I. Virtanen.

Now, because unlike I, all world doesn't consider stars of milk related inventions as the sole reason to gain fame, it is okay you either don't know the man who invented a way to store feed for cows for winter and so insuring the milk production all year around. He got the chemistry Nobel price for this in 1928. A.I. Virtanen, the coolest man in the world in my books.

After google told me athletes were considered famous, and that my love for fishing has kept me completely unaware of this whole world of motorsports, I now can list a few other names too who even avid readers as Canadians are may have heard of. As far as I know, some of them are even alive.

A.I. Virtanen. Beat that when we're bragging about the cool kids!

(I'm sorry to say, that was my actual answer. I still can not believe it)

A.I. Virtanen. All you need to know about famous Finns. The coolest man ever.

It can't be called football if no ball shape is on the field.

Canadians like the word sorry, so that's been written there a few times.

Wow, oh, ok.

I mean, it is really frat that Finland once won a hockey tourney. Once. Or twice. Must have made all 10 of you very proud or something....

And Jaques Villneuve is hardly ancient. He was racing against Schumacher (and beat him for F1 championship...)

But, as for yourmilking hero guy...uhhhh...yeaaahhhhhhh....ok then. I will concede you can milk very well.....or feed cows very well. Or whatever he did.

All our players are tied to NHL all spring long. Cut the season so we too can get players to our teams! Damn it, the whole country doesn't have enough people to put together a team so you keeping the skates on till june is hurting us, which I am willing to bet is your evil plan! Every year you bring in the best you got, since the teams that have Finns are rocking the games! No wonder we don't win those!

I'm sorry, Schumacher? Again my knowledge of history is very poor, I do know about fishing though!

And because of your belittling words of the biggest star in dairy world before the WWII, I will from this day on boycott Canadian milk forever! Your gatekeepers will no longer hear my fabulous excuses to cross the boarder and it is all because of you. If the death rate of those poor souls will rise because they are so bored, it will be on you.

now, go take the pups to hockey practices and make them go for a run after it. Teach them what is the shape of a ball and above all, tell them about A. I. Virtanen. Then we can talk about DTM and other stuff that Canadians apparently dabble on.

Wait for july. I'm taking my boy back on the road again.

Actually, I was in the great lakes district a lot this summer, twice because of a tiny navigational error. I was going back from Atlanta to home, via Kansas city, and I ended up in Indianapolis. The great lakes and my extremely perverted ex geography teacher made sure that the Great Lakes are probably the only thing that every person who went to that school will never forget.

I got my boy from the east coast, so I've seen a few sane states too, as well as Ohio and Washington.

Anyway, I'm sorry I didn't notice this, I was too busy showing to the damn flashy Canadians (who in this case is a manual guy so I count him as an almost sane one) where to look if you want speed.

I'm taking back my American friend to Europe asap. He's a hard core "Stand back, I know what I'm doing" guy, and I can't wait to see what he thinks of the grandmas passing him on the roads.

A news about a Swede making it to the big boys league is not that surprising. We from that corner just are a bit weird, and when it comes together with cars, it usually works out pretty damn well.

I prefer to think of it as improving an already great thread.

the "ball" in hockey isn't round either, and it hurts, hence why none of the players smile any more

I am reading this thread occasionally that night.

I agree it might be an interesting debate why a game that starts with hand-on-melon is called "foot-ball" while another one with totally foot-on-the-ball is called a "soccer" that sounds like someone is socking a cow pat. But OK, let it be so. The artificial shoulders and helmets make the boys looking almost men, except may be the white pants. OK, let's skip it then.

And my national ice hockey team has the gold medals count somewhere between the two you mentioned here and equal to another nordic team, if we look after the 1990. But this wasn't the reason to me to step in.

But I couldn't avoid commenting reference to Artturi Ilmari Virtanen's name because my ex-girlfriend was a biochemist who's doctoral dissertation was linked to his works in research of chemical structure of amino acids. She could be a great scientist but passed away in December of 2005 because of brain cancer.

Strange to find it here on BMW forum, after so many years. Let me say my sorry if this post could be considered offtop.

This thread (well, the original) was sent here because of our lack of respect for Swedish motorsports. As you can see, many in our side of the forum were bored simultaneously.

You commenting on this made my day. I hope the memories you carry with you about her are happy ones, even with the sad ending. Sometimes the small things, even read from a car for brings back moments and conversations we thought were lost forever.

I wish you all the best
