335 i vs turbo IS 300

So I'm out this evening, and I see a red IS 300 with fairly loud exhaust that appears to be racing a C 6 convertible, and doing well against it. The C6 turns, and I come up to the the IS 300 at the next light.

I take off normally (not racing). The IS 300 punches it. Not to be outdone, I punch it. He got a 1 carlength lead by starting sooner, but I had only made up half of the difference through 70 mph when he let off. I had my wife in the car, but he had 2 people in the car! We did it again from a roll, and we were even to about 60 mph.

We pulled up to the next light, and he told me that he has a turbo. He didn't say single or twin, intercooled, etc. However, the turbo had a very loud high pitched whine. I though it was a supercharger.

Anyway, I have an e 92 with PROcede v. 1.3 and 275 PS2s. He said that the turbo was his "little surprise". I must say that I was quite surprised.

Too much traffic--not on the interstate. I believe that I would have won by a slight margin from a dig. But that car was dangerous. When I saw that it was an IS 300, I had little respect for its' power, but I was wrong.

He let off because he was a FUCKING PUSSY and knew you would have walked him above 100. I love these fucking people who bitch about having too many people or too much gas in the car to race. If you decide to pull the trigger and race you get what you deserve.

BTW, you're street racing because....there's no dragstrip nearby? Just curious...

That's about right. They're just dropping in the Supra TT.

Cool, I am sure it is a only 1 big turbo, Japanese people are not big about aftermarket twin-turbos.

We were going out to dinner. This wasn't planned, and I wouldn't classify it as a race. I was just getting up to speed. And yes, it was apparent that at higher speeds I would have walked him.

He said at the light that he had 500 hp, but that didn't seem right. I would have thought with that much hp that I wouldn't stand a chance. He was never able to gain on me at any time.

Exactly. He would have pulled you the entire time and would have been a lot farther ahead then a car length. With 500HP it wouldn't have been a race at all, PROcede or not.

Not necessary true. A lot of them are just getting a very big single turbo. Even the high powered Supra owners are leaving the twin turbo in favor for a single turbo.

Turbo'd IS300 can be very fast. Check out the vids from http://www.visionboy.com/videos.html

its not a simple drop-into the IS chassis. A big turbo probably wasnt at full boost in the rpm range the 335i was at. But yea turbo IS3's around here run 400HP and up. theyre dirt cheap, all things considered, I'd still like a GS with a 2JZ-GTE

hi everyone...this is my first post here, but i thought i could clear up some of the "turbo IS" confusion...

people do swap the 2JZ-GTE into the IS300, but just as many folks opt to work with the 2JZ-GE that comes from the factory. if an IS300 is at or around 400whp, he is just as likely to have a turbo'd 2JZ-GE under the hood as he is a 2JZ-GTE swap. N/A Supras that have been turbo'd are commonly referred to as "NA-T," where NA = natrually aspirated, and T = turbo...this distinguishes the Supra SZ-R's (naturally aspirated from the factory) from the true Supra RZ's (twin turbos). now i'm not an expert on my motor's N/A counterpart, but IIRC the NA-T's don't take much more than 400whp without an engine/drivetrain build. so if you come across an IS with some crazy power, he's either built his stock motor, or he's got the GTE swap.

just about the only time you'll see two turbos under the hood of an IS is if it's got a 2JZ-GTE swap. people who can't afford this swap certainly cannot afford a TWIN turbo kit, which includes just about two of everything, and therefore costs nearly twice as much as a single turbo kit. another thing that makes the GTE swap expensive is the need for a Supra Turbo tranny. i've only seen people use the 6MT Getrag unit in their IS's, but i suppose the auto tranny from a Supra Turbo would work as well.

by the way, a good example of an IS300 that doesn't have a 2JZ-GTE swap is the Visionboy IS300 that wj4 linked to. he is making 719rwhp on the stock 2JZ-GE head (yes, that's the head from the N/A motor). the bottom end has pistons and rods (probably bearings and studs as well ,even though his site doesn't mention them).

anyways, to the OP, way to keep up with a turbo IS300 . now get that PROcede b/c the next 2JZ that crosses your path may not be as tame

You're an idiot. Street racing is juvenile & stupid & kills too many people. If it only killed the participants, that would be OK. Darwinism at it's best. Get those losers out of the gene pool. Unfortuately innocent people are killed also and that's not ok.

What is your argument that street racing is a good thing? Fucking moron.
