Munich.
BMW Group customers can now ensure their vehicle software in all BMWís with Operating System 7.0 is updated at all times with Remote Software Upgrade. Available with immediate effect, this feature keeps the vehicle fresh and is as easy as updating a smartphone. The first upgrade, available from today successively in all BMW ConnectedDrive markets, includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant*, whose range of intelligent functions can now be expanded automatically and conveniently over the air. Remote Software Upgrade offers vehicle-specific content and updates such as function extensions for driver assistance systems (e.g. Active Cruise Control and side collision protection). Subsequent upgrades will allow customers to source additional vehicle functions from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store and activate them easily in their BMW.

Uploading new functions directly into the car.

Never has it been easier for customers to keep their vehicle up to date over its full lifecycle and to adapt it to their individual requirements. Remote Software Upgrade ensures their BMW always has the latest software update and functions are constantly improved. Plus, customers will be able to add digital services at a later date. All of which ensures continuous improvements to the safety and quality of the vehicle. Depending on their carís specification, customers will be able to use Remote Software Upgrade to activate additional functions seamlessly and conveniently from their home, via smartphone or inside the car itself. It represents a milestone in the bespoke, digital personalisation of BMW vehicles.

The additional functions of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated for models such as the new BMW X5, new BMW 3 Series and new BMW 8 Series with BMW Operating System 7.0 from the introduction of Remote Software Upgrade. Future Remote Software Upgrades will regularly expand and improve the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistantís skills (free of charge). These cyclical updates include software adaptations and function extensions.

* The exact timing may vary according to the market.

In your dreams bud. ID7 will be obsolete in less than 2 years.

Not much better than the free map updates i get on I drive 6 then. Loading destinations from the messages app takes too many steps and any refinement in the process should be made available via software updates and not just on newer vehicles. Think of it as a safety feature.

They work just have to log into BMWConnected on the computer and select your region. At least that's what I did in the US

This will eventually eliminate dealer visits for updates. The new iDrive7 has constant updates for bugs as well as updates for more features. The OTA updates are long overdue as Uconnect has used this way of updating for 3 years now. It will keep the iDrive7 more viable for much longer than previous iDrive systems. My iDrive7 has been rather stabile and is significantly more advanced and blistering fast compared to iDrive6.

You're joking, right?

No, it doesn't.

It is possible owners of iDrive 7 cars won't need istep upgrades as frequent since some idrive and Driving Assistant updates can be pushed OTA.

ID6 is fine and it is reliable. ID7 has been plagued with problems since the get go.

Not sure why you feel that way. I have a 2019 X5 delivered 12/18, never had a single issue with ID7. I actually find it quicker, smoother and more intuitive than any other version I've used. Its the only one I've considered as having usable voice command. I've had X5's with ID5, 6, 7, and whatever version the 2006 E60 5 series and the 2013 F30 3 series shipped with.

Has anyone had luck getting their software updated and, if so, how? I'm running 11/2018.55 and CD iPhone app/iDrive still say this is the latest version (which I know isn't true).

point taken, but that's what over the air update suppose to be able to fix, no (now why they launch something buggy to start with is different story)
