Releasing one's tax return

Not trying to stir a pot here, just trying to understand the theory why Trump is refusing/reluctant to release his and what that means for us US residents? So what If I get sued and the other party wants to see my personal/business tax returns. Can I take the same stand and not release them and If I have to release mine, why can't we make him release his?*

Why would a third party ask for your tax returns, taxes is solely the business of the individual and the government and if something was wrong with it we have government agency that handle those matters.

Because he has something to hide. It's just that simple.

If I was him, I'd never turn them over. They're grasping for anything to twist into their needs .. trying to get rid of him. The voting is over, they didn't win ... period. Hell, we had to put up with Obama because he won .. voters said they didn't want Clinton ... just get over it .. now grow up !

What the asses who are pushing this should shut up and do the nations business. Like they haven't done to date.

I know you’re not the president, but I’d like a copy of your tax return, please... better yet, post it here... if you don’t, it’s proof you have something to hide.

He's 'hiding' something that the federal government has full knowledge of because said information would have been disclosed to the IRS. Hard to fight with that logic lol

Democrats: I want your tax returns.

Trump: People in hell want ice water.

End of story.

I’ve felt the disclosure of tax returns by politicians was a crock for a very long time. First, there is little to learn from the return because many assets are placed in trusts or otherwise obscured. Second, a lot of detail is not disclosed so it is really hard to make a judgement about anything from the return. What we tend to get is the reported (taxable) income and the amount of tax, sometimes the tax rate (simple math that eludes most reporters it seems) and the amount of charitable donations (deductions). There is a lot more to a return than that!

In Trump’s case, I would guess (and it is only a guess) that his annual return is hundreds of pages long with all kinds of property and business revenue and expenses, as well as trusts and other structures. It would be impossible for anyone other than a well experienced tax attorney or tax CPA to make sense of, much less draw useful conclusions from. So, what’s the point, other than political theater?

IMO, he is right to refuse (and it is his right to refuse).

I suspect it's more ego than tax violation as they may reveal he's not as rich as he claims.

Having said that, it's his right to legally fight disclosure and by the time a judgement comes down either way he'll have long been re-elected.

Praise Jesus!

Does your tax return say how much you’re worth?

Trump’s personal tax return will show exactly as much income as he allows to accrue to himself personally... which will have exactly nothing to do with his wealth. But, oh, yeah, I think there’s a line item there that says “list how much Putin gave you”..or on line b list how much you gave PUtin.... there’s that...

He doesn't want to release his tax return or else it will expose what his real net worth is.

“It was my experience that Mr. Trump inflated his total assets when it served his purposes, such as trying to be listed amongst the wealthiest people in Forbes,” Cohen said, “and deflated his assets to reduce his real estate taxes.”

My perspective is this: it is not a legal requirement for him to do so regardless of audit situation, second it is a private matter legally protected and third he is in a lose lose situation with how the media treats him. Let’s suppose he does release his tax return, we all know the media will pick it apart, make all kinds of crazy, not based in reality assumptions and just make things even worse. I certainly wouldn’t be wanting to release my tax returns either. With how complicated they are, it’s very easy to miss something in a single year, then you are skewered Manafort style.

...it won't matter to the Trump-cult, so why bother!

Nothing to prove to the rest of us as we know he's everything they refuse to believe and/or admit.

Asking for returns are never of any meaningful value other than political smear tactics. I wouldn't turn them over. There's a reason why folks from both sides of the aisle never turn over data that others typically don't.

I don't believe the law requires him to do it so he shouldn't have to until the law is changed.

I believe that people in the position to change the law for their own gain should also be required to show how these changes will benefit them. This would include all tax returns and investments. If you don't want to disclose this then feel free not to run for public office. If I was running for office this requirement wouldn't bother me at all as I have nothing to hide.

With all President's since Nixon (not sure?) volunteering their tax returns I am assuming their are items on Trumps that he doesn't want to show. Then he promised he would show them many times so I feel like he should follow through, like anyone else that makes promises, if you don't want to do something just say you aren't interested.

The politicians wanting his tax returns are his sworn enemies. They lie and vilify him 24/7. Now who in their right mind would give them anything they didn’t have to? Because otherwise it shows he has something to hide? That’s a childish argument.
