The hardware and software are completely different to retrofit into current 6FL.

That's really stupid. I know car manufacturers want to sell new cars, but to not make them retrofittable for newer technology is truly asinine. Any computer can be updated when new drives or faster processors come along, which is like every 6 months. To think you $70k car is outdated in one sense in a year is ridiculous!

In your case it's quite easy, mate. Just make sure you've checked both 6FL and 6FN options and your all prepared for the new cradles.

Has it been confirmed 100% that the new iPhone 3G cradle will not work in a pre-09 (i.e non-6NF) car?

Note, I am not talking about music playback from the cradle, like 6NF will provide (at least for now - maybe with some mods, this can be possible). What I am interested in is the cradle providing the same functionality as the one in the first post of this thread. The only difference is that it would be for an iPhone 3g instead of the original iPhone. In fact, we can even start more basic than that - just getting the thing to even physically fit in the car.

Not much to update. MY2009 cars can be ordered with 6NF to allow music playback from the cradle. MY2008 car are left with no upgrade path.
