It's a sad day when a song title is the background on the tach!

So yeah...speedo and tach shunted off to the rim and almost all the real estate is now devoted to nav and entertainment.

We've gone from ultimate driving machine to ultimate sitting-in-traffic machine

OMG! Navigation shows highway, view from windshield shows desert with cliffs just ahead! Oh, no! Looks like a Thelma and Louise moment for BMW. Kinda like I felt looking at this ridiculous dash-trash.

I was just listening to Creedence's Green River when I looked at the fourth pic. There is "Green River" but I think it's supposed to be a name of a place.

Shame there is no option for the old needle type dials.
I agree with you, an old-school option would be nice. And regarding the tac it seems weird but I do get the concept of symmetry.

As with the AMG's there's different modes which gives a different look to the instrument cluster. Old-school, classic, sport, race... The driver can choose how it looks and what's appealing to them.

But I guess the cool thing with a digital dashboard is that I'm assuming it can be altered and updated electronically.

How about lowering the auto for once, maybe toss in DVD in motion as a "gift".

Because BMWs are not sports cars. I'm not sure why everyone here needs their BMW to be a singularly focused machine. While great performers, there are many many more aspects that appeal to BMW drivers about the car. Most people barely drive their Lamborghinis, it's a crazy comparison to even suggest BMW should think about their interface in the same way as that company (as good as that Lambo dash looks)

There was a time when BMW built cars like the 2002 with emphasis on driving!
Making the cluster not gimmicky isn't such a crazy idea! It doesnt cost anymore than in a $250k car!

How many screens do you need to tell you what song you're listening to or where you're going?

^Exactly !

But it doesn`t matter anymore, just a few years from now, you don`t need a cockpit, dash, rev counter or whatever counter, because we/you will be a passenger in your own car.......

Info overload pure and simple.

They've effectively made the instrument panel useless. With HUD, I hardly look at the instrument cluster anyway, but it's sad to see BMW moving away from the great ergonomics that set them apart.

Not happy about them getting rid of the knobs for temperature control either on the X5. Temp and volume should be knobs, its just more natural and intuitive.

I did that how I know they f it up
The arrow is always on the side the fuel cap is on so the arrow will be right side pointing to the right side

They have one that correct and another one that incorrect
Which is the arrow on the left side pointing right

This is the point . . . We don't think BMW's digital dash has any options for the type of display. I think that most of us had assumed that it would, but all pics and vids so far show the speedo and tech on the sides, the pseudo map in the middle, and one or two user definable fields inside the tach and (maybe) the speedo.

I just wish they'd push an update to ID6 so the on screen car matches the color of your actual car.

BMW catering to tech trends rather than their driving enthusiasts base.

I prefer the Audi digital cockpit than this.

Love the temperature control knobs and full HVAC LCD display in my G30.

I honestly don't understand folks these days. Might be my age. If you like old school why not just buy old school. BMW needs to evolve, I've been in the brand now 10 years and I'm super excited on them embracing a more modern look.
