A big heads-up to anyone using older phones. Carriers world-wide are announcing the sunset dates for 3G GSM and CDMA services...and they are closer than you may think. Some will not even activate new service on these old devices today!

Many of us will lose connectivity to our BMW's. Alarm system companies are scrambling to upgrade 3G communicators in homes/businesses. Older basic phones will become bricks.

Verizon's announcements:

https://www.verizonwireless.com/supp...e-base-218813/

Something to keep in mind if you have an older device.....

I was gonna post earlier that Verizon will not activate any iPhone 5 or older. Once your iPhone 5 gets deactivated for any reason, it's done.

I have a pair of OnePlus5 phones that I use for work/personal. The dual sim feature and the minimally bloated android is a tough combination to beat. Hoping to upgrade to the newer models soon.

I think, we as a society, have overshot our needs of what we need a phone to do. Make calls, send texts/emails, take photos & have the ability to use said photos for whatever purpose and show me boobs on occasion. Outside of that any other future developments for wireless technology can F*ck right off.
This.....I typically "root" any phone the first week I get them and load a very streamlined OS onto them that doesn't have all the bloat they pre-load them with.

I used to do the same thing. I have spent countless hours on XDA-Developers forums back in the day. I used to be the same way with my personal PC's. Now I just don't care enough to spend the time on it.

About 10 years ago, Nokia released the N-Gage gaming phone. Within a week of having a demo unit at my office, I had phone rooted, all the games downloaded & stored on an SD card and the phone unlocked. Once the phone was discontinued, my kids inherited the demo unit that I "liberated." The hours spent by my kids and myself playing Tony Hawks Underground and Tiger Woods were ridiculous. 10 years later, I still have the phone and it works like a champ. I actually played a couple of holes on Tiger Woods a few weeks ago.

So, people are all but forced to update to a newer phone to stay current with software and security. Especially when, for example, apps require a certain software version.

Overall there doesn't seem to be a significant difference between a Note 8 and Note 10. That's why people aren't rushing out to buy the newest phone because the "upgrades and new features" just aren't that significant to justify the expense.
iPhones aren't impervious to what you're describing and neither are Pads. I tried setting up Disney+ for the boy on my 2012 iPad 4 and it wouldn't support the app and I could no longer upgrade the software. My parent's iP6s are starting to become or are obsolete as well.

6 - 8 years isn’t too bad for a support life given that OS’s and hardware updates yearly.

Im also running a OP5.
Still using my ATH-M50 while charging the phone, so I don't plan to change it soon. Maybe around 2022-2023.

This phone is super fast even if it was out in 2017 (snapdragon 835, 8gb ram), and still doing 6-8h SOT depending of my usage. Which is crazy good. OP diagnostic tools tells me that my battery is @82% capacity. Which for a almost 3yo phone, is great.
I never use dash, to avoid heat, thus lithium degradation/crystallization/oxidation. Never charge overnight. and charging only when I need it.

Franco kernel, oos 9.05, and black theme everywhere since its a amoled screen.

Love the fact the navi button are out of the screen.

Imo the Op7T is not a huge upgrade to the OP5, so not worth over consuming tech for that.

people complaining about camera quality, well on GCAM, its good as the pixel 2 or 3

I use OP primarily because of the dual sim as I need to have multiple phone numbers for work but so far it has been the best phone I've used.

My iPhone6 will soon be EOL, bt Sprint won't give me anything for it. Were it a 6S, sure they'd giv eme something.

Wife and son both got X in last couple months, but it's so damn big. If I put that in my pocket, you won't be able to tell I'm happy to see you.

I'm (im)patiently waiting on the direct jack on the back of the noggin.

I'm still using my company-issued Kyocera flip phone because #pushtotalk. Texting is disabled, which is a good thing, because I'd get carpel tunnel using the 10-digit to spell words.

I had the 6. Good phone, good size and pretty light. I have the 10r now and it's pretty heavy and a bit thick. It's faster and bigger screen but, i dunno i like the size of the 6.

Same "upgrade" I made. I prefer the size and thinness of the 6. The 10s and 11s are too bulky.
