Red-winged black bird sings... by dcstep, on Flickr

These guys are all over the place around Denver at this time of year, but I finally got the classic pose of the bird straddling two branches. The light was pretty strong, so I couldn't quite get the feather detail that I wanted, but it works as is, I think.

These guys come in a month or so before the females and make their call every few seconds for weeks. They put a lot of energy into it and I'm amazed that they have any energy left for sex when the ladies arrive.

Really great, classic demonstration of shallow DOF and use of bokeh. Not only is it textbook, but it's also interesting.

Is it bad that the first thing I try to do when I see Tim's pic is look for his watermark? It's like where's waldo.

Haven't posted anything in quite a while. Not sure I'm quite happy w/ the crop on this one, but it seems it would look weird if only part of the slider were in the pic. Ultimately, a better framing of the shot was probably in order.

Well, in chronological order....another concussion, 70+ hour work weeks, SF trip for sister's wedding, 60+ hour work weeks followed by 2 weeks in Yuma on business...and getting screwed out of HHonors points by the government (lol), and, finally, jury duty. I've got a bunch of pix from SF, but haven't had time to go thru them.
