The car laps slower than F82 stock to stock in tight tracks because ZF8 gear ratio is suboptimal in tracks demanding 3rd-4th along with slower shifts.

Also test-drove Giulia QF the other day. While the car feels very light and sturdy I can't see a ZF car ever replacing any of the DCT cars I have. It simply lacks feedback and is clunkier when driven in manual mode.

I was thinking that too. At this stage I'm not a fan based on what I've seen of the X3M but I'd like to see it in person first

The real front end of the G42 2er is hidden under the tacked-on plastic camo.

The picture of a G42 M240i that leaked in April 2020 shows most of the front end and rear end without camo (you can spot an ///M logo on the lower front intake, but it's no G87 M2). Unfortunately, because of the angle and distance of the picture, the real proportions are not properly represented. For sure, it looks more proportionate and muscular in reality.

As said before: we will need to get used to the new head lights & tail lights design, which will also feature on the 2023 G87 M2. As usual, on the G87 M2 the front end design will be different (featuring /---\ lower intake design instead of \---/ design).

this may have been covered, but if not.

As a result of being built on BMW’s new CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform, the new 2 Series will provide a 40 percent increase in body rigidity compared with the structure used by the current model. Suspension setup will comprise of a heavily reworked MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension. According to BMW M engineers, one advantage of this new setup is its ability to support increased front camber. It will be available with the choice of either lift-related or variable dampers.

Good find. It also implies the new M2 will hit a $60k+ base price.

Has anyone else pondered the remote but distinct possibility the G87 manual will be built exclusively in Leipzig? I don't believe the Mexico plant turns out any US/Canadian manual cars. That's my logic.

Transmission goes on pallet, pallet goes into container, container goes onto ship, ship goes to Mexico.

What about MR. posting in an earlier thread that G87 M2 production for Europe will still be at the Leipzig plant. Are you able to now confirm that is correct?

Individual colors will be available on 2-Series and M2. 1-Series can be ordered with individual colors from September onwards. After three years of hearing it is coming, it is finally there. Production for Europe will be at Leipzig, and US markets will be in Mexico. They will divide it between those two factories.

Also G87 will have a head-up display for those of you who would love that feature. That is next to the carbon roof as an option, the choice between manual and automatic gearboxes and all the other interior features we have seen from the new M3 and M4.

S58 up front producing around 440 hp and other than that a similar power train set up to the M3 and M4. If I have more info, I will share it here.

I've heard Leipzig for sure for European production. Additionally, I made the point not because BMW can't ship it and do it, it's just that they may not. I checked BMW Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Chile sites and in none of those countries is there a manual offered on the G20 3 series from what I can tell. Even in Europe it's only on the 318d from what I gather. So, my point is, the factory may not be set up to have two transmissions on the line and that may be something that is done only in one plant. Probably unlikely, but one can hope.

The only info i have read on the forum confirming European G87 M2 production still being done at the Leipzig plant is from MR.That is why i was asking ynguldyn if he has another source confiirming what MR. posted is correct.

There was a British publication that posted last year that M2 production for the UK would still be done at Leipzig.

https://drive-my.com/bmw-m2-coupe-fo...pe-m-1-series/

With regard to the manual transmission i don’t think it is difficult for the production line in any plant to be set up to install two different transmissions in a car.It would be great though if the manual was only manufactured at Leipzig.

I think part of the reason for having the assembly plant in Mexico is to save labor costs. It is likely also for tax reasons. That means that the price might need to be higher for a German assembled car sold in America. I don't think that they'd go down that road, but who knows.

Some of us would happily pay much more for that car...the entire price of the car more.

If people want to pay double to have a car built in Leipzig (East Germany) then they must be richer than I.

Haha, no. I meant it as in I'll actually buy the car. I won't buy the one made in Mexico just like I won't buy German tequila.

So the Carbon Fiber roof will be "optional"…

Does that mean it will be a paid option or one of those zero cost swap options (painted with sunroof or you can get the solid CF version)?

If it's a paid option, any ideas what it might add to the price?

Also, what is meant by "first 4 months will be BMW 50th anniversary"… does that mean those first 4 months of production will be more expensive and highly optioned models?

I want to get an early allocation but the only "option" I want is a CF roof. I don't care about anything else other than the powertrain (which better have an S58), 6spd manual, and CF roof. I hope I don't have to wait for that because first 4 months worth of them have special 50th anniversary badging and $10K worth of options.

Any new insights on all this? We are almost 1yr out from SOP.

Everyone that comes in asking about the m2 at the dealership I work at has high expectations for this. Hoping this one will be as special as the F87

Just had my first real encounter with a G80 and I understand why. I really thought I would warm up to the design but no. Just no.

My money is on the CF roof being a stand alone option. 2k or so.

Personally, the G8X platform hasn't felt special to me compared to the F8x platform those just had a presence to them especially the F80 M3 And F87 M2 Comp

Yeah, I've had the very first of the last three iterations of the M3/M4 Coupes ('01, '08 & current '15) When the G82 came out I did not have the same drive to preorder. Looking seriously at the G42 as an alternative.
