I suspect it chose that shutter speed due to focal length.

The front yard has some nice color already. Grass is nice and green and the cherry trees look great.

I'm sitting in the waiting room at the hospital while my wife has a procedure done and she'll have her gallbladder removed tomorrow. I've been at the hospital since Thursday night, so I won't be taking any new pix this weekend. Here's one from last week:

Saturday morning rowing below beautiful Mt. Evans. by dcstep, on Flickr

The fires that you've seen on national TV would show up as smoke to the left side of this image had it started a few days earlier. It looks like they got the fire out before the winds kicked up today. I can see the area from the waiting room.

I was walking around the beach looking for something interesting to shoot when i saw this girl and her mother fight about something. her mother then walked away and the girl walked by me in tears and sat on that umbrella stand. i stayed there for quite some time thinking that i should go and talk to her, but she was crying so i let this "cleansing process" go undisrupted. about 15-20 minutes later her mother returned and sat there with her holding her in her arms.. it was quite a touching scene.. i took that pic also..

lessons learned: theres a photo opportunity everywhere and i need a longer lens

Cool shot, panicos. I'm trying to decide if there is too much negative space or not. I tried a tighter crop, but at the same general aspect ratio as you have. It didn't change the image much, so maybe that's a sign that you could lose some of the space. Are you going to post the other pic? If you had three, you could put together a pretty interesting triptych.

get a bit of a haze on the beach?

Shooting beaches is fun a couple of times, but you quickly run out of subjects as not much is there other then sand and water. Rocky shore lines and such tend to be more interesting sometimes.

The one thing that there always is on a beach though, is people

i thought about a tighter crop but i wanted to show that loneliness feeling.. i wanted to show how i think she felt at the moment.. i tried a different edit with a gradient filter and it was nice but not much difference.

i will post the other pics, i have more than three but the three major are she sitting alone, her mother (i guess) standing next to her with her hand on her back and another one with the mother sitting holding her. do you think i shou go for the same processing on those.. i'm still thinking on how to portray the "its ok we will get over this"feeling..

that little walk on the beach was great, i never got out and shoot people like this, definitely more fun than landscapes

cute, but the girl had to pick the ugliest thing in the world to sit on

I think that one you could probably crop a little closer on to get more of the motherly warmth where when the girl is alone, the further out crop makes a bit more sense to show the loneliness.

I totally agree and was thinking the same thing with the empty space kinda showing how she felt. Great story and great shot.
