Manuals will continue to suffer attrition even in the sport segment. This is obviously true for EVs. My car has only one forward gear. There is no saving the manuals except as a very niche issue and mainly for just used vehicles.

Yeah, eventually, they will fade away, I agree, but for now, Porsche is not looking to get rid of them anytime soon, which is a good thing for those die-hard manual transmission fans.

I commend Porsche for keeping manuals alive but they will likely also only offer them in their specialty multi-hundred thousand models that basically no one can afford. And those that pay $150K+ for a Porsche? Suckers.

"Lexus has progressed as far as adding a manual gearbox to a battery-powered UX300e SUV for research and testing, and says the technology allows drivers to load in the characteristics from different petrol engines."
Think this would be considered a manufacturer "filling a niche". https://www.drive.com.au/news/lexus-...electric-cars/ |

Agree, and I love my manual car. My guess is the take rate on a manual EV will be less than it already is for ICE cars. I don't know why any manufacturer would put money into R&D for this. Love the vegan bacon analogy too; either do it for real, or not at all.

Lol, I remember doing that a lot in the 80s. I`m not sure I could do that today....And not using the clutch for upshifts

I love manuals so much, when I used to travel to the UK for business, I would always ensure I got a manual car from Avis... At least the break/clutch/gas pedal are the same layout as in the States. Left hand shifting is tough enough... Peugeot 6 speed... oh yea baby

I drove a manual with my right leg in a full immobilizer for three months. Using my left leg for the clutch and brake was a little tricky, but I also used the handbrake a lot.

As a side note. After my total knee replacement surgery in 2012, I was back in the E90 two weeks later driving my 80-mile (one way) commute. The Doc said clutching was great PT. |

Let's not stop at just a manual transmission! Save the drum brakes, manual crank windows and bring back the 8 track!
