This was discussed at length a year or more ago after the infrastructure bill came to light. Smart money is on buying a manual transmission vehicle that does not have advanced driver aids systems (ADAS) before MY 2026.

I had a similar thought about all of the monitoring and tracking devices in place today on your phone/PC/internet traffic. Sometimes, just thinking about staining your fence means you get advertisements for just that. I'd rather just go on about my day without prying eyes trying to sell me something constantly, or having control of what I do.
I understand the purpose behind wanting a kill device - but these will just be removed in some way initially. I imagine the removal of the device will trigger the car not to start or at minimum a check engine light. |

It will be abused. Pretty sure this has little to do with actual concern over drunk driving. Drunk driving is just being used as the shoehorn to get people to accept the invasion of privacy. It's not just the "kill switch." The most alarming thing to me was the requirement that there will be in-cabin monitoring of noise (read: conversations).

More like fire-arms. Criminals will be able to disable or use this and ordinary citizen get to live without control of their own cars they supposedly own and bought with their hard-earned money.

Its amazing how many people have this ignorant mindset. You may not be doing anything wrong now, but what happens when the people in power have changed their perspective and now view what you are doing as wrong?
My kids said the same thing when I brought up how invasive Tik-tok is on someone's phone, yet its not about whether or not you are doing something wrong, its about the fact that the government or private company has zero right to do this sort of thing. Same with the Patriot Act......

I'm happy that some are calling out the 'meh' ppl but unfortunately we're in the far minority as evidence by the past 4 years or so.
There are so many bad things that could happen, getting hacked, misuse, accidental shutoff, etc, all potentially causing harm or accidents. Just craziness there was no debate supposedly, they just snuck it through? I hate to see the future. Glad won't be around to see this distopia after a few decades. Insane. |

Pre covid, I would have said "Come'on guys, you are just being overly paranoid".. But then when my private sector employer said I had to get an govt mandated injection to keep my job.. Now I say BS to this government overreach.

Those who support this or just shrug their shoulders will be the first ones crying when a disaster takes place and to prevent roadways being flooded with civilians fleeing an area has all the vehicles disabled! Or only 'certain' vehicles be able to move! Shelter in place orders the same! Etc...
Is a crazy nanny state affair having this built into vehicles! Is it good reasoning in certain situations? Maybe so, but abuse of power is a guaranteed thing, exhibited in contemporary times on too many occasions to dismiss as mere coincidence. Nefarious and malicious use if the technology is almost assured, whether it be governmental, or criminal... That is all... |
