F1 2022: French GP - Le Castellet (July 24)

When was the track built?

Work began on pastis magnate Paul Ricard’s track in 1969, with French racers Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo acting as consultants on the layout. Racing began at the circuit a year later.
When was its first Grand Prix?

Formula 1 hit the Circuit Paul Ricard in 1971, with Jackie Stewart winning the inaugural race in his Tyrrell 003.
What’s the circuit like?

The Circuit Paul Ricard’s even distribution of high-, medium- and low-speed corners is a key reason why it’s one of the most used test circuits in the world (the typically good weather is another). F1 drivers love the 290km/h right-hander at Signes and the 5g joyride of the following Beausset bend, while the circuit’s 2018 return to the F1 calendar showed that the French Grand Prix track is a bit of an overtaking gem.
Why go?

Drive just 10km south of the circuit and you’ll find yourself on the French Riviera, one of the most revered coastlines in the world thanks to its beautiful beaches, pretty harbourside towns, great food and, if you fancy it, incredible local wines. Apart from the racing action, that’s why you go!
Where is the best place to watch?

The Chicane series of grandstands put you at the best overtaking point on the track (as Sebastian Vettel proved during his 2018 fightback from 17th to fifth), while if you want to be closer to the fun and friendly Paul Ricard paddock, bag seats in the Virage du Pont stands to watch cars making their way through the final corner before blasting away down the main straight.

I'm genuinely hoping the new cars will make this track more interesting because this has been one of the most boring races on the calendar for a while now.

Expecting Ferrari to be strong again with Checo making a strong showing here.

Yeah . The track layout is awful . But it looks very colorful and think I like that
The mistral wind is always present there and that can be very tricky at the Paul Ricard Circuit at Le Castellet!.

I'm also thinking HAAS will have a strong showing here but they've been known to disappoint.

I think Toto is a scumbag but he is without a doubt an extremely intelligent and successful man who knows how to run a team.

There's a lot of run-off room there which is really nice. I like the idea they had with using the red and blue colored friction paint in those areas (one of the colors slows the car down more than the other).

No problem brotha, was waiting for someone else to make the thread but looks like no one wants to any more. Or we scared all the Lewis fans off.

For sure he knew how to run a team especially from '14 to '20 when Merc had huge time advantage with building hybrid engine earlier and getting Fia pushing them in. He now is using behind the scene methods with new Merc acting director? lawyer to undermine the Ferrari and RB floors.

I hear that Vegas is a very bumpy asphalt . And a new asphalt layer is required for the Vegas GP plannings ...

I do not not often post in this thread, but Paul Ricard S*CKS and FIA wants to get rid of Spa... they are idiots. Spa is probably the most beautiful racetrack 'in the world'

I was there @F1 back then....

I biked there when I was young(er)....

Agreed.

Getting rid of the BEST race track in the world (Spa) and keeping probably the WORST (Paul Ricard) is asinine.

I'm just glad Zandvoort is back - I love that track.

I thought I saw/read that although it’s not formally announced, this will be the last race here. Contract is up and vegas will essentially replace it. Same for Monaco is done as well, unlikely it will get renewed next year. That is how they will get back down to season after these new tracks came onboard.

•According to my inside information 95 % chance it won't be scraped from the FIA F1 calendar ...
Because Spa-Francorchamps just made an investment of 80 Million Euro's to give the Spa circuit a new modern look with great looking grandstands and a new asphalt layer .

•As we know Spa got (too many) fatal accidents and that's why Spa took especially 5 new safety measures with gravel traps and on top of Eau Rouge a large run-off area on both sides with a fantastic grandstand.
All this to comply with the new FIA safety regulations !
In Dutch for you => https://nl.motorsport.com/general/ne...toren/4888451/

•I agree completely Spa-Francorchamps is the greatest track on earth !
Don't be worried , don't be sad my friend . Spa will be there and in 2023 as well ...

•The Spa-Francorchamps circuit "Before and After" . Enjoy the video and the sound as well !
