BMW Colors

Someone placed an order for an "Orinoco Pearl" M3 and that got me thinking... I really love how BMW names their colors after objects and locations. In my eyes that gives the color a bit more specialness. Figured I'd start a thread looking at some of them.

My G05 in Ametrine Metallic. Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of quartz. Nearly all commercially sourced ametrine is mined in Bolivia.

My G20 in Dravit Grey. Dravit refers to the dravite tourmaline mineral. The name originates from the Drava river area in Slovenia, where the mineral was first reported.

As for the colors I'm picking for my cars on order:

Will be replacing the X5 with an X7 LCI in Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic. This is a pretty obvious one as it's named after the bluish hue of the mountains in the smokies when seen in the distance.

And I'll be replacing my G20 with an M3 in individual Oxford Green Metallic. And..... I actually don't know where this color originates from. Oxford University uses more of a blueish color whereas Oxford Green is very obviously Green. But... this is the closest I could find:

They established a green belt that surrounds the city of Oxford...it is called "Oxford Green Belt". It is about 258 sq miles of open green space. So maybe BMW named the color after that...

Austin Yellow was one of the launch colors for the F8X back in ‘14 (for my local COTA circuit).

Me, I’m pretty partial to Sakhir Orange for the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain (my F82 color).

Yeah definitely a lot of their colors are inspired by race tracks arond the world which in itself is really cool. I was focusing more on the non-race track inspired colors since some of them seem so far out there.. a sort of "who took the time to think that??"

I was googling "Manhattan Green". I found an article on the Ford Authority website...they were talking about a new color for the Lincoln Navigator called...guess what? Manhattan Green!! It is only available in the Black Label trim. I still can't find the reason why BMW called it "Manhattan Green".

Aventurin Red is an interesting one.

Appears to be some type of quartz. "Strawberry quartz."

Searching for plain aventurin pulls up green stones. Red aventurin pulls up the strawberry quartz.

In terms of the track inspired colors, how could you all forget Silverstone?! Easily my favorite BMW offering.
