I'm just amazed at how a Hyundai can take corners at 200kph and pull 1.4G like nothing (max Gs i can see is 1.6G). Also all the parts of the car did not overheat or fade over the lap of the green hell.

I recently test drove the Genesis GV70 and thought to myself... damn this doesn't sound half bad for a luxury suv. Then I found the setting in the infotainment system to turn off the fake sound. I would have personally left it on... ignorance is bliss! |

My friend has a new Octavia VRS - in sport mode it adds a V8 soundtrack...it's an I4. He never uses sport mode now, needless to say. |

You can cry all you want, EVs are going to take the top spots in the "regular" categories soon. There's just too much advantage to EVs in closed lap circuit times. They won't run multiple laps in a race with other cars for a while, but setting a lap record, this is what they will do. I guess this makes it hard on "numbers-guys" that look only at 0-60 or lap times. These are definitely component of performance to consider, but some people get butt-hurt fast when a car comes out that is "faster" than their car in any way...especially if it's in multiple ways.
Hyundai/Kia is the 2nd most popular EV I see around here and they seem to have invested into it in a good way, with decent vehicles and performance. Tesla is either going to need to do a lot of restructuring and work to stay competitive as brands like Kia/Hyundai leverage their production, or they are going to slowly die out and become non-relevant. Kia/Hyundai have done the opposite, limping around in the US market for years making shoddy cars not up to the standards of other Asian brands...only to get exponentially better over the last 10 years and especially last 5 and 2 years. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make serious inroads to dethroning Honda/Toyota.

Will EVs ever dominate endurance racing? What is your estimate for an overall win at 24hr Le Mans? Multiple decades or never? E-GMP is probably the second best EV platform on the market, only behind VW Group new PPE EV platform. |

The tech keeps improving and getting better to make sprint-runs and lap-time records possible, which is it's own thing in racing. That is good. It'll keep getting better and more people will be racing them at events. Even now, we have several Teslas that show up and race, competitively mind you with no handicap, at autoX. Then there's Pike's Peak, notice in the last few years, these are steadily getting closer to the top spot, within just a few places. No power loss with altitude. The point though is that it will be evolving. The new records will be with EVs. There are people out working on this, modding them and making some seriously amazing machines. They will be different, but that's not necessarily bad.

Why? Is it because it's an EV? The brand or the country of origin? It's lower class or price? It failed safety tests?
Albert Biermann served as Hyundai’s Executive VP for vehicle testing and high-performance development, is Hyundai Group’s Executive Technical Advisor. Before Hyundai, he was at BMW for 30-something years and led BMW’s M Division. That's a leader to trust. And the Ioniq 5 (subject of this thread) received IIHS's Top Safety Pick+. What's there not to trust? |

Ehhh I dunno. That's exactly what is missing from EV's and I expected sound like this to happen at one point. Definitely makes them more appealing if EVs really become the standard and only option in the future. This would definitely fill that itch for me.

Rent an Elise/Miata/S2000 and have a vastly better time driving. |
