took the plunge!

gently used D50 looks like NEW! no scratches or any signs of usage...

I was gonna go for Rebel Xt but i hated how it felt in my hands... very cheap, D40 was not enough(for some reason) and D50 seemed like a good starter.(auto focus on older models that do not have motor built in the lens)

I have longgg ways to go but I'll get there! u have no idea how longg i've waited for this !!!

Congrats! Now go out and make some images!

Have you given any thought to lenses yet?

lens is least of my worries yet...

I need to learn how to get exposures/aperture right for different lighting and shades first.

what I do want to get is Fisheye lens and Polarized Filter

The 10.5 fisheye is great fun. I also like the 12-24 DX AFS. You can get the fish for $400-$500 used, but the 12-24 is closer to $800-$900. I own both, they are great lenses.

Master the f-stop, and you have mastered the equipment side of photography. I'm always learning new ways to use the equipment i have, just by messing with the aperature. I spend 90% of my time shooting in aperature priority or manual mode. Other 10% in shutter priority. I don't even know how to use the programs on my D200....

Actually, I think you have your priorities backwards. Good quality glass should be number one. Your camera is only as good as your lens. 2 out of my 4 lenses are more expensive than my D200.

True, but this only becomes apparent when you have grasped some of the fundamentals such as technique, composition etc.. Spending big money on glass when you are new to SLR photography will not improve skill. Being comfortable with the camera will.

What do you mean by long shutter mode? Do you mean long exposure? Are you asking how to adjust the shutter speed, or the noise reduction for long exposures?

Is f-stop for the aperature? I have the D80 and am still learning, slowly...

Set your camera to manual mode. Rotate the dial circled below to "M". Right now it is set to "P", or program mode. I have never used P mode. I use M or A (aperature priority) 90% of the time. The other 10% I use shutter priority.

Now, the sub-command dial, circled below, will adjust your shutter speed. The dial below the shutter release (not shown) will control the aperature.

Also move your ISO up to 800. Don't go higher, the sensor in your camera will introduce too much noise.
