What is this F1 Car?

This is on display at the local AM dealership. First off, I know ZERO about F1 so here a few dumb questions...
Is this a real F1 car? Does it have a cool history (if real)? How many of these are there in the world?

These questions didn't pop into my head until I got home. I was hungry.

Okay here we go.
It's known currently as an 'Aston Martin' though there is a slight difference that it uses a 'customer' Mercedes engine. The team is owned by a Canadian that has a 51%? holding in AM sales cars shares and his son drives one of the two F1 cars.
The car you see there is almost for sure a display vehicle without the real engine and a lot of plastic parts.
The team has been rebranded from its previous names like Racing Point and Force India which it was called before and so far has had just one race win in the guise of Racing Point. The current drivers are Lance Stroll (son of the owner) and Seb Vettel a 4 times F1 champ.

I'm always weirded-out when I see cars like this in the real world, as F1 bits of just about any sort are super closely guarded secrets. I mean, no amount of money could buy you a 2021 F1 engine right? They don't let those out until they are many years old and the tech has completely changed. Or am I wrong on that?

Not sure but I guess some are destroyed and some are put in their hq display collection which are fired up occasionally and driven round a track.
I know that Ferrari did destroy a lot of their engines and designs as there simply was no room to keep it all.

Almost no modern high end racing engine is sold these day. From IMSA, LeMans, to F1. They are all leased. They have RFID tags as well to sound alarms at HQ when someone tries to open them. The engines are pulled and taken back to the source for any maintenance.

Makes sense if you think about it. If you can design an amazing engine and get a few extra hp over the competition, the last thing you want is someone opening it up to learn all your secrets.

Interesting story. Now tell us about Force India and their ex-CEO.

There is a great story about this from the Silhouette Racing era when categories were separated into groups with Group 4, Group 5 and Group 6 cars being the predominant cars.

At one point the Kremer brothers decided to "help" Porsche transport a racing car back to the factory. It took them about a month or so to make the 200 or so mile journey to Porsche. I wonder why it took them so long.

The Whittington Brother's story is a movie that is BEGGING to be made. I wonder why it hasn't happened yet?
