My theater room is almost complete!!
Very exciting day for me. Carpet installers just left and I got to setup my speakers once again in my new theater room (the bat cave).
I've been working on this project for the past 4 months on and off. In my basement there was an unfinished room measuring 20x16 with a bulkhead for heating ducts running down one wall. I have been subbing out to contractors I know to do some work for me, but I have been trying to learn everything I can and do it myself. the drywall work and framing were beyond me....I wanted it to look good, not like I did it. I took care of all the wiring and planning once framing was in. For the drywall, we used 5/8" instead of 1/2" to help insulate the sound. We actually used 2 layers on the rear wall and ceiling to keep sound from penetrating the wall and absorbing into it. the 2 layers were separated by a 1/2" layer of wood spacers to create an air pocket. the thought of putting full size sheets of 5/8" drywall on the ceiling 100% convinced me to pay someone else for their time. The end result has turned out very good I think. Here are a few pics of what it looks like today. No furniture in it yet. What will be there is a loveseat w/ coffee table on the large raised platform, single theater chair on the small raised platform, 3 theater chairs or a couch (havent decided) to the left front and a single theater chair at the right front. Screen - 118" diagonal 16:9 Carada Projector - 1080P Panasonic Speakers - All Definitive Tech powered speakers w/ Velodyne SPL1200R subwoofer (these things ROCK) Amp/Receiver - Biggest Yamaha made a few years ago running 6.1DTS Only thing left is a few pieces of trim, caulking, paint touchup, and the wall mounting of 4 black 3M soundpanels a client is giving me for free. Let me know what you think!! Shot from rear of room...lights are completely off w/ floating crown lights on low during viewing. My photoshop mockup which I did before starting! Looks like I stayed pretty true to the original concept. The seating areas Projector....this thing amazes me w/ its brightness, clarity, and contrast everytime I turn it on. A few screen shots from 300 in HD....amazing movie to see here. Rear Definitive speakers (4x6 1/2" mids and 2 titanium tweeters each!) Front speakers (front and rear firing towers w/ powered 12" subwoofer built in!! Also the Velodyne sub, this thing is an absolute beast.....so much kick. I can only turn it up to 45% or so before it starts overpowering the room. The door shakes!) The unasumming door to the batcave, this wall will be decorated somehow to set it off the rest of basement still in shambles. you can see where I painted all the black trim!

Man that looks outstanding! God I love theater rooms. I've got one upstairs in my house, but I'm getting ready to completely remodel it. Problem is it's also a view room (Mt. Rainer is perfectly framed) with two sets of large windows, which will be tough to deal with when it comes to acustics.

beautiful work. Feels great to do things by yourself (for the most part) As a new homeowner I'm learning things that I never thought I could do before, such a sense of accomplishment. Looks great though, real jealous!

does that room have more lighting? i think id be better with a few more lights that you can turn on after watching the movie... might want to fill those walls with your favorite movie posters in frames.
