VR46 Announces his retirement
Well we all knew it had to happen one day, but wished it would last forever.
The 2021 Motogp season will be the last for the greatest motorcycle rider of all time, The Doctor, Valentino Rossi. Motogp will not be the same without him. |

He will certainly go down as one of the greats but I’m not sure Ago would agree with your summation.
Given he was in his prime years racing a few really good Aussie riders he was always the “bad” guy for me. He’s probably gone a year or two too long though? |

It's like when watching Jordan in a Wizards uniform. He brought character and color to MotoGP. His skills in his prime were leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. Towards the end he did become a little less likable but you still can't take away what that man did for the sport or on the track. |

The Doctor defied certain death a number of times while competing at the highest level of the sport, but none more dramatic than last year's Austrian race when riderless bikes missed The Doctor's bike by a nano-second....so great to see 46 know when to hang up his helmet (at least in MotoGP)
I attended two FIM 500 cc USGP's at Laguna Seca in the early 90's....Wayne Rainey on the Marlboro Roberts Yamaha, Mick Doohan on the Rothmans Honda, Kevin Schwantz on the Lucky Strike Suzuki....these 200 + MPH 2-stroke machines were frightful.

I am still so gutted he was robbed back in 2015. He's been a staple for what feels like my whole life. I remember even in Iraq and Afghanistan doing whatever I could to watch him race.

Yes he's had a wonderful career and it's sad to see him go. If you missed it, MotoGP has his onboard video from the Red Bull Ring incident: https://www.motogp.com/en/news/2020/...r-crash/340104 .
There aren't enough docs about motogp for my taste but if you missed it there was Faster narrated by Ewan McGregor. If you subscribe to Amazon Prime they have it https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B007X709PE/ . |
