Sticking with one of my new found regulars tonight, Old Forester Rye. 100 proof, solid taste, and it's only about $25 for a fifth.

Second that. Haven't had a RR pick that I was disappointed with.

That is a good budget one, if you enjoy that you would likely enjoy the Wild Turkey Rye as well and it is also on the cheaper side.

Yep, haven't really tried to many Ryes. Old Forester was my first venture into Rye whiskey. Figured it was pretty cheap, so if I didn't like it no biggie.

The only other Rye I've tried is Pikesville Rye, which I also liked, so I'll probably start looking at others. I'll add WT Rye to the list.

George Dickel rye is really solid, too - MGP juice - and well priced.

I impulse-bought this little Gold Bar blend while I picked up an interesting rum: mocambo 20. Veracruz Mexico. Will see later, after my massage

You need to try it - incredibly smooth. I find the overall reviews don't do it justice.

Another favorite from off the beaten path is Old Monk rum, believe it or not.
Great recommendation. This is pretty tasty!

Pikesville is a hard rye to beat at any price point.

Can't go wrong with Sagamore Spirit, IMO, if you can get it where you are.

Also, I haven't had the New Riff rye, yet, but I hear good things about it.

Sagamore is good, New Riff is fantastic. The New Riff normal offering is a little hotter than I prefer but the Single Barrel Rye is one of my favorites and I would classify it as fantastic.

Yeah, I've seen Sagamore around and thought about picking up a bottle of that. New Riff is another one on my list. I'm a fan of their small batch and single barrel bourbon, so I'll probably give their Rye a try as well. Ive also heard good things about Willett Family Estate Rye, but Willett isn't sold in Ohio...

Willet has a lot of hype but they are good at raising their price based on demand so the secondary market doesn't take too much. Their 4y Rye is good, and about right at $50, but their 6yr was super hot and did not really impress me.

I did like the fact that the Willet family were the ones working the gift shop and distillery when I visited, definitely still a family operation which I can appreciate.

Looking forward to a cigar and scotch tonight with my neighbour. Not sure what he picked up for old fashioned, but I know he wants to make that, plus he picked up a bottle of Lagavulin Distillers Edition (about $160 up here), so that should be good...really looking forward to that.

I haven't cracked it open yet, but I'm hearing good things, I picked up a bottle of Smokehead Sherry Bomb...should be good. I'm saving that for the next time he and I get together as the Lagavulin is already the star of the show tonight and it doesn't need competition. It also runs about $150 or so a bottle, so I'm hoping I didn't get fleeced. Undisclosed distillery (save that its an Islay one) and no age statement. None of that really matters though as long as its good.

I have heard good things about Smokehead, although I have not had the opportunity to try it yet. I generally like the sherried islays though (Laphroig PX cask and a few of the Ardbeg day releases)
