It comes with the new HD-DVD blu-ray (1080 picture quality). Those HD-DVD players are rare and cost 1k. The blu-ray blows the DVD out of the waters! The blu-ray stores up to 25gigs (I think) on one side, where as DVDs only store 8 gigs of memory. Thats going to provide extra space for 7.1 channel audios, and better picture quality. I think 600 bux for this system is a steal considering its brand new technology. The XBOX 360 uses regular DVD technology. Anyone wanna line up with when it comes out? ;D

har har har.....i want this too, but thats too much to dish out for something i only use for dvd player. i have my ps2 since it came out but only use it to watch dvd...

Did you see the XBOX360 press release for the HD-DVD drive? You can buy a usb HD drive to attach to your console...

i think my cousin paid close to a $1,000 for his PS2 when it first came out.....
he bought it on ebay......none of the stores had them.......

PS3 should be going for 1k easily......unless you sleep in the rain overnight to wait in line......

I heard something about a HD-DVD drive, but it confuses me because I thought the xbox360 is the gap-filler between Xbox 1 and Xbox 2?

Doesnt make much sense to get a system for three years, add the hd-dvd drive, then have it obselete when a new console comes out. Or is Xbox2 just a rumor?

It used to be that video game consoles never outpaced your other hardware. Early systems like the NES/SNES/etc worked fine on 4:3 CRT TVs with sound going through the TV.

Now, if you want a full-blown PS3 experience, you'll want a 1080p HDTV and Dolby surround sound system. Think of how much *that* adds to their $500/$600 price point.

... I'll still end up getting a PS3 though... can't stay away from Final Fantasy!

Im gettin at least two, and sellin em online, on ebay. Just buy a system and like 3 games and call it a bundle package. You could sell it for like 1500. You would then basically have got your system for free from the large profit you have made. I CANT WAIT!!!

:finger: sony, every time a new technology comes out they try to sell us on their format and they lose. vhs and beta. dolby didgital audio and super audio cd. hd-dvd and blue ray. if this new playstation is not a success they might go under
