playing about with high ISO

straight out of camera, just resized to 800pixels

25,000 ISO

cropping however is not really an option :P but then again, i could use some noise reduction to help, but this is about as good as it gets in it's original uncropped format.

Not bad for such a stratospheric ISO. The 5D MkII really is good with noise, eh?

Nice shot, Matt. Wish I could afford the luxury of such a lens. So sharp.

Thanks, guys. The 400/5.6 is a great lens, but it does require optimal lighting to perform at its best.

that's why you're using the 5DII lots of ISO to play with

upped a different picture, wasn't happy with the first.

still not as clear as I like, bit of humidity in the air. Was sliding around on the deck while trying to take this as the dew was starting to freeze.

Here's my moon shot today. Out the car window, with the 500mm and the 1.4TC, handheld. Waited until it was above 45-degrees above the horizon to get a clear shot with no smog:

Yes, 7D, the detail king. I had to wait an hour or so for it to get high enough beyond the smog we had today. The air was real still.

Some people are tempted to shoot the moon when it's big and low in the sky. Once in a blue moon, pun intended, that'll work, but more often than not there's too much distortion.

for sure, I think the only time it would really work is a harvest moon, but even then, too much atmosphere. best is the 12:00 position by a long shot, but it's hard to wait for that when it's below 30F

That's why my M3 shooting blind is so wonderful, heated seats. It was around 22-F when I shot this.
