that cop needs to see a psychiatrist or something. hopefully your charges get dropped, i'd still file a complaint though so maybe his supervisor can talk with him and tell him to get his shit together

Only half? That's awfully generous. My brother, cousin and a friend I've known since HS are all cops. Even they agree with me and candidly share stories of how dysfunctional a lot of cops they work with are.

Careless (or reckless) is extremely hard to prove in court as a stand-alone with no associated accident. It's easy to write on a ticket and hope the person submits/pleads, but unless there's an associated accident or obviously egregious situation that caused destruction/harm, one person's "careless" is another persons "in control/normal", because it's simply opinion. Sometimes in these cases they'd have an "expert" come in and try to explain why a certain behavior is careless/reckless, but again, without an associated event like an accident, it usually falls apart pretty bad.

The most important thing is not getting any points which I think is your case.
I would not have made an inquiry concerning the cops behavior. For a few reasons. We all have bad days and say stupid things unintentionally or intentionally. Always felt the state cops main reason was drug and human trafficking interdiction and they choose which cars to pull over due to stereotyping and I'm not bothered by that and with the general mood with a large part of the public concerning cops and defunding and protest, |

So the IA guy who took my complaint was insinuating I was just wasting my time.
The SGT though, gives me hope. It’s his guy and for him to have the tone he had regarding the issue was really surprising to me. I spoke to a couple lawyers. They say the complaint is not a good idea but also haven’t see the video, they just said generally not a good idea as the cop will dig in. Basically said best case the reduce everything to doing 10 over and up the fine couple hundred bucks. + 579 atty fee. Hey someone has to fund the police I guess. I really don’t care about the money, I just really want this guy to feel like an asshole in front of the judge. I guess we will see what happens. By now I hope his SGT has let him know that I called and complained. I hope he feels like an ass for acting like a thug. |

NJ State Troopers usually use Laser in roadside speed enforcement. You'll see them shooting the laser like a gun resting on the door. I often see them pull to the shoulder, quickly open their door, rest their right elbow on the open window While shooting the laser rearward while still sitting in the driver's seat. They'll surely find a target in moments and they're off to the chase. When you consider NJ is the most congested state in the country, it makes sense that they'd use laser. All this laser enforcement is part of the reason I haven't run a front plate since 1994. They're trained to shoot at the flat-reflective plate. It's more difficult to capture speed using laser on a car without a front plate. Also, NJ State Troopers employ unmarked cars (usually Dodge Chargers, but sometimes Camaros (especially further south)) for pacing and finding people salmoning through traffic. I notice that the area of the NJ Turnpike with separate truck-bus lanes gets much more enforcement than the car lane on weekday mornings. There's ALWAYS Troopers pulling people over in the Truck-Bus lanes near Newark and Elizabeth on weekday mornings. Be super careful over there.

I've had an excessive amount of tickets (over 50) in my 35 years of having a license (minor stuff in flashy cars), so yes, I've seen that cops are people too, on occasion.
Personally, I'd call the COP for that district and have a chat. Tell him straight up, and that you're willing to pay a speeding ticket for 75mph, but anything beyond that and you'll seek litigation. |

I have one of the best radar detectors out there; a Escort Max 360, linked with an active 4G connection, tether Waze, that I send in once a year to get calibrated. Trust me, I'm positive it's functions properly. I do know for a fact that NY state police and the TBTA bridge police, just sit on the side of highway and "visually estimate" your speed, as you pass them, which is fancy way of saying they guessed it. I tried contesting a summons, based sole on a "visual estimation" before and I was told that cops are trained to use their superpowers, to be able estimate speed, by plus or minus 5mph and the violations was upheld. Doesn't matter anyways because to solidify their case, they just lie and say they verified your speed with laser or radar anyways. Anyone that believe that police are above bending the truth, let me know, I have a bridge to sell you. I'm not on a crusade against highway cops, I know they a necessary tool in reducing fatal highway collisions but I'm not a fan of how the game is always skewed in their favor, level the playing feel and keep it honest, instead of the current guilty until/if you're proven innocent.. |

I’m not saying I don’t speed. And if you catch me you got me. But I haven’t had a ticket in almost 5 years since I started using uniden radar in conjunction with Waze. And his “pacing” is totally horse shit. At the time he could have paced me we were doing 75ish... so write me a little speeding ticket, I just don’t understand why he felt he needed to make the rest of the BS up... |

![]() Yea, it wouldn't of matter anyways, a radar/laser detector only good if the cop is actually using such a measuring device, which, in my experience, specifically in the city, is not too often. However, it works beautifully in the rural, long winded country roads.. |

Sounds like a dumbass cop.
Based on your recall of the conversation, sounds like you were being too nice. I understand you should respect authority, but if you act like an asshole you should be treated like one. Whether or not you broke the law, not sure that type of attitude is necessary. |
