The Race Track Thread
Happy Friday, All.
In a continued effort to purge our place of refuge from the real world of The Manscaping Thread, the Hairdressers Thread, The Lotion Thread, and The Mani-Pedi Thread (which was done in irony ) I bring the linchpin to finally put this back together and get us to our roots: Welcome to The Race Track Thread!! The Rules 1. It is preferred that you are the driver but not necessary. Race tracks are special places and if you did laps as a passenger you get an honorable mention. 2. If you know the FIA Grade of the track, please add it to the listing. 3. If configurable track, please state the configuration. 4. Number of Laps 5. If doing hot laps with a recognized driver, pls name the driver. 6. Country track is located. Let's get this party started!! 1. CoTA, FIA Grade 1, 250+ Laps. USA. M6. 2. Hockenheimring, FIA Grade 1, 8 Laps. Germany CLK Black Series, full cage. 3. Hockenheimring, Short, Non-Graded, 5 Laps, Robert Wickens. Germany CLK Black Series, full cage. 4. Ascari Race Center, FIA Grade 2, 60+ Laps. Spain. Various BMWs. 5. Virginia International Raceway, FIA Grade 2, 60+ Laps. USA. M3. 6. Birmingham International Raceway, FIA Grade 2, 120+ Laps. USA. M6. 7. New Orleans Motorsports Park. FIA Grade 3, 60+ Laps. USA. M6. 8. No Problem Motor Raceway, FIA Grade Goatfarm, 120+ Laps. USA. M6. Put them up everyone and continue the PURGE!!!

Pocono Raceway - the road course, not the tri oval. Passenger in Viper, maybe 30+laps during Ferrari Day at Pocono back in 2006ish. A lifelong friend and his brother raced Vipers. OMG, it was freakin awesome.
He thought I was gong to cry like a girl when we hit the straight away and was right next to the wall, was he wrong.....

1. Road Atlanta, FIA Grade 2 I believe, Numerous Laps, USA
2. Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, Numerous Laps, USA 3. Daytona International Speedway, FIA Grade 2 I believe, Numerous Laps, USA Now to be honest, this was when I was traveling around with a Bike group when younger that consisted of guys who raced the season circuit. I wasn't as skilled as these guys, so I only did the stuff close to me and mainly for fun. I got passed a lot! With cars, all my exploits have been on drag strips. Fastest I have been in the 1/4 was in the high 9's.....which these days is not that fast anymore.

I’ve done DE events several times at:
Putnam (IN) Mid Ohio Grattan (MI) Waterford Hills (MI) Gingerman (MI) Each includes dozens of laps at speed. I’ve also done the BMW course in Greer, SC. Last edited by 2000cs; 01-17-2020 at 11:34 AM.. |

You must be a neighbor I've done Grattan a handful of times. This year I'll likely be at Grattan, Mid-Ohio, and Waterford Hills. Possibly Gingerman as well.

I mentioned a little of this on that top speed thread, but here is the rest of it.
Using either a Ducati 996 street bike or a race-prepped Honda CBR 600RR, I did a dozen years of track days averaging a dozen dates per year. No way I can say how many laps I did, but I can list the tracks: MidOhio (home track) Road America (favorite) Laguna Seca (only two days on this one using a rented ZX6R) Putnam in Indiana Gingerman in Michigan VIR Beaver Run in Pennsylvannia Barber in Alabama Autobahn Country Club near Chicago Watkins Glen in NY Last year I drove my M Roadster at a track day at Sebring in FL. Was not as enjoyable for me as being on a bike. Will probably stay retired from track day events. |

I was a neighbor but have moved south since my track days. I’d forgotten about Gingerman, a fun track too, so went back and edited my post to include it.

1 hot lap as passenger in the BMW X5, to learn the track "first hand" 5 laps with instructor in 911S. Passed everyone at least once, but that Lambo walked away from me when I got close on the back straight. Took him in turn 3. . . |

Watkins Glen in NY (USA); FIA grade 2, full/long course (bus stop and boot); At least 250 laps over multiple HPDE's with the GVC-BMWCCA. No true 'hot laps' with anybody famous, but I was passed by Bill Auberlen twice during the same session (yeah, I'm THAT good ).

Over the years I too have done many, many, many ride days (at least two times a month for about seven years or so) on a GSXR 750, TLR1000 and an R1, primarily at what is now called Sydney Motorsport Park. Used to called Eastern Creek and it was where the MotoGP used to be be held.
Also, other local tracks in Sydney on bikes Oran Park Amaroo Phillip Island GP Track - Philip Island Victoria Australia- about 60 laps on an R1 Oran Park South track - Sydney Australia - about 100 laps in a Formula Ford Sydney Motor Sport Park- Sydney Australia- BMW M day - about 50 laps Donington Park - Leicestershire England - about 60 laps on a Ducati 916 Yas Marina Circuit - Abu Dhabi UAE- about 10 laps in AM GT4 I am going to be a both Spa and Monza GP this year and am planning on driving on at least one of them, can’t wait for that! |

Haven't really had too much time to track the e92 but the times I did go, I had a great time. After driving on the track for the very first time, I thought "now i get it, this is great!" Going to join the BMW club of North America this season - they do a lot of track events where members can get instructions on how to drive their car properly.
1. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park(Mosport) - FIA Grade 2 - 50+ laps(solo+instruction) - Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada 2. Toronto Motorsport Park(Cayuga) - FIA Grade n/a - 75+ laps(solo) - Cayuga, Ontario, Canada Last edited by xander_g; 01-17-2020 at 06:17 PM.. |
