Exclamation Snowblowers

The snow here has been unbelievable this winter and my little one stage Honda snowblower is out of it's league. Recommendations on two stage blowers [insert joke here] that are awesome and don't cost 3 grand?

Ariens. I have a 926LE and it's a fucking beast. I got it from a buddy at work for $600 but I think it was something like $1,200 new.

I got this sucker from Home depot. It was originally $630 but they gave it to me for $580.

24 Inch 2 stage. This biotch sucks so much white stuff, it's intense.

Could have used that this past weekend. But it would have been for just the second time this winter and it would have been serious overkill for the first storm.

Still...

Take the snowblower with you. They can use the parts to keep 15 old Chevys running.

So I didn't listen to anyones advise and went with a Craftsman 26" 2 stage. Very good ratings on consumer reports.

So they have this equipment protection program where by they will come out to the house and fix it for free if it breaks. Three years is $140 and five years is $250. The problem is I don't have a vehicle big enough to transport this thing. Anyone ever go with one of these programs? I mean my father in law has a pick up but he's almost 70 and I don't see asking him to help me transport it.

Sears comes out and fixes our riding lawnmowers at the baseball field all the time. They wouldn't come out when someone stole our battery though ;(

This is what my father had before he moved into a condo. I would get in the rhythm in the morning and just do the neighbors while I was outside. Solid machine, IMO. Never had a single problem with it and worked great.

I used to swear by Craftsman, now I swear at it.

I have one that is 9 HP, 29", 2-stage, blah blah blah. Looks great on paper, has run like s*** since the day I got it. It was $649 by the way which we can all say is cheap when others are smaller and cost $1300.

The starter broke, and when I went online it was $200 for a new one? WTF?

There were 3rd party amazon resellers that had knock offs for $90.

No thanks, now I pull start it.

If you don't want to spend for an Ariens from a Home and Garden store (not HD or Lowes), that's what you get. Is it really savings? As far as cash outlay, sure.

I have had the opposite experience...these are made by MTD Yard Machines, on par with home center stores meaning not the real deal.

There you go. The only good advice in this entire thread.

People dont' realize Ariens and Toro that you get from HD or Lowes, is NOT the same as Ariens and Toro you get from a hardware store. With this junk, you get what you pay for. Reason is they are way too big to ship, so it takes the amazons of the world out of the picture.

In the grand scheme of things, everyone is going to have different experiences with any model of just about anything. Yes, there are differences based on make, but your experience can't be directly related to someone elses. Are there brands that are held to higher standards, yes, but that doesn't mean they're bullet proof in the end.

Sometimes you spend less and get something less than favorable, other times, it works like you need it to for years with no problems. Ours was issueless and my brother in law uses it now.
