PROcede question about turbo lag

Does installing PROcede make the minimal turbo lag more noticable?

I like what I am hearing about the gains, but I also love the very minimal lag here is on this car stock.

Any comments?

The lag is a little more...but while it's lagging, it's building that gob of torque to knock you back into your seat...

I've got to be honest, I never felt any turbo lag at stock, and I certainly don't feel any with my procede. But keep in mind I have a saab 9-3 that feels like the turbo kicks in 5 minutes after I pull into the garage, so maybe I'm not the best judge.

Coming from a high performance high revvin' N/A car you'll feel the world of difference...

i had an M3 before...and when i switched over, for the first few days...the lag drove me nuts...but after i got used to it it was fine...

then when i drove an M3 again... i forgot how perfect the S54 engine and tranny was..

Yah, sounds like your biased. Need to have a reference point. I drove my Uncle's Mitsu VR4 years back and I can still remember the wait for the turbo to spool. Stock: I never felt any turbo log with the 335. With the Procede: there is definitely a slight lag but the wait is definiutely worth it.

The only reason you don't feel much lag with the stock 335 is because the car is detuned 50-100lbft in the 2700-6500rpm range. Once you tune the car and get all that extra power, you do notice a surge in power between 2000rpm and 2700rpm. Sometimes no lag means no power

So let me see if I am getting this right.

From the time you stab the pedal down, is there a greater lag for the turbos to spool up? OR is it the same lag time (spool time) as stock just with a more pronouned thrust forward due to the increase in TQ & HP?

In my head, I don't see how PROcede could alter the rate at which the turbos spool up, but the preceived lag is just with a greater thrust forward.

If that is the case, then thats no biggie, but what I don't want is a greater spool up time from the turbos.

From the dyno curves I notice that there seems to be a bit less power below 2k rpm with the PROcede, and a lot more power from 2.5k on. So there is a more pronounced power shift, a less flat curve.

Is the Procede 'peaky' and hence more difficult to drive? Does not look that way to me. But that will have to await seat-of-the-pants testing.

I went and did some gymkana type backroads this weekend using 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear only and experienced what you are talking about. I have the Steptronic but not much difference in what I observed, the unpredictability/disconnection of throttle/turbo response makes it a hair raising experience compared to my son's M3.

There is no less power below 2000rpm with the procede. There is only more power above 2500rpm because boost continues to build and build (until it reaches it peak at 2800-3000rpm) whereas it levels off with the stock ecu early.

What would you say is more true?

1. there is greater turbo lag and spool up time with PROcede

OR

2. There is a greater perceived turbo lag due to additional HP and TQ

Does it actually take the turbos longer to spool up with PROcede?

The rate of spool is the same between stock and PROcede. With the procede, the boost targets are higher so the period of spool is a fraction of a second longer. That's about as clear as I can be I'm afraid.
