Car Wash question - best drying towel you've used?

I'm sure I'm the odd man out here, but I don't use anything special, just a nice set of terrycloth hand towels (wet). But my car never gets dirty, so the towel is really just for water. I've never had any luck with micro-fiber or chamois towels.

Griot's PFM is the best I've used so far. You could probably dry two cars with their large size towel.

I also have a Gyeon silk drying towel and it was amazing on the first use, less amazing after the first trip through the laundry.

I've used Cobra waffle weave towels in the past and they don't even come close. They're still better than an old school chamois though.


If you're using a good coating or si02 based wax then I'll second the ego leaf blower option. Less touching is best of all.

The shop that did my PPF and ceramic recommended this "Dhydrate" towel from Carpro to me. I love using it as it leaves my car spot free and streakless!!! It comes in two sizes, 28x40 and 20x22.

TRC Liquid8r - it's incredible how much water it holds, yet leaves no streaking behind. 70/30 construction which is the softest and most absorbant.

I'll second this towel! I've used it for many washes and it is still as absorbent now as it was when I got it!

I'll second this, the PFM's are the best microfibers I've used, period. The PFM drying towels are great, regardless of size. The PFM terry weave is my hands down go to for everything... and I have a metric ton of mf towels from all the top recommended companies.

Took me a minute to figure out that I have been using the McKee 16 x 16, Glaciers towels.
For the life of me I couldn't remember who I bought them from.
I just ordered another 3 pack since they are a few years old.

I like them better than the PFM because they don't have a sewn hem, which always bugs the piss out of me.
The Glaciers do the major water lifting then I will use a 600GSM plush to straighten out the remnants.

I have an old DP turbo car dryer to blow dry if I feel like it then I would finish up with an Eagle Edgeless variety towel. I guess it all depends if I want to use a drying aid or not.

I use the Gauntlet towels by the rag company. I have 5 or 6 of the 30"x36" for all of our cars. I have never had to ring one out. I also wash all my MF towels separately from the rest of our laundry with a MF specific detergent and dry on low heat.
A Ceramic coating, DI water and a blower is always best, but when I'm washing cars at 6am, I try not to wake the up the neighborhood.

I use reverse osmosis, filtered and deionized water at 0ppm for washing my cars. 0 spots and no towel drying. Much faster and no risk of towel scratches. Just need a 35 gal Tuffy trash can, filtration from salt water fish store. I use a Ryobi stick pump with a garden hose and it can wash 3 cars per trash can of water. Been using the filters and DI granulars for years with still perfect results.

Yes! That's me...not an Echo, but I ordered a RYOBI One+ HP 18V Cordless 220 CFM Compact Blower...comes in tomorrow.

Hello OP,
My favorite towel by far, and the one I recommend to everyone, is the Platinum Pluffle as found at the Rag Company, HERE. These towels are extremely soft and highly absorbent, 70/30 hybrid. I have no concerns using it to dry a vehicle, especially when using a drying aid and two of them (damp followed by dry). The towel just glides over the paint unlike any other. I'm a retired professional Detailer and enthusiast. So, I've tried many of the top rated towels including some mentioned. The Platinum is the best, IMHO. It's apparently become the favorite among many other Detailers, auto restorers, and manufacturers as well. The smaller ones are great for wax/sealant/polish removal. Otherwise, I prefer two medium ones for drying as mentioned above. It's a very very safe drying method.

I'll third this as the 16x16 PFM is my go-to. I've got the larger 25x35 size, but I like the smaller size which drys my 340i with ease. Its rated at 1120 grams per square meter and really holds a lot of water.
