Watch recommendations

Hello everyone, I need your help!

My dad will be turning 60 soon and I want to get him a good quality watch. Can I get some recommendations from you guys?

His ideal watch is small and light. He used to like Movado watches and he is currently wearing this thin silver Omega. I don't know the year and model but I'll update this thread as soon as I find out.

I showed him my IWC Portofino and he thinks that watch is too big. The diameter is 42mm and thickness is 13.2mm. He only likes metal bands too.

My target budget is under 5K but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

How about something like a Junghans Max Bill or anything from the Nomos line? They are very clean, Bauhaus style watches. Nomos is just under the 5K range and Junghans is well below 5K, probably 2K range.

How about a Junkers wristwatch? Simple, elegant and timeless. Best feature: The price of 500,- Euros, convert that to USD.

I must admit I don't recognize any of the brands you guys have mentioned. I'm going to do some research on each and get back to you. Thanks for the recommendations!

Longines has a lineup of 38.5mm watches. Below your pricepoint though (I guess around 2k)

Or a 38.5 omega seamaster, but thats probably something he already has.

Or something completely different, a grand seiko. SBGR253, 37,5mm with a killer movement (72hrs power reserve, 35jewel). Yes, a 3,5-4k seiko.

You can get a Navitimer in the $4k range if you go grey market or vintage.

yes but his dad wants a small (at least <42mm) watch

Navitimers are HUGE; its the opposite of what the TS is looking for.

Rolex oyster is maybe too small? (mid size is 36mm)

Maybe the TS can give some pointers? Dress watch? or more sporty? Classical styled or modern? automatic?

Nothing what the TS says points to that. Best stick with what the TS is looking for.
A navitimer is a large watch. Maybe also a bit too expensive just 'to take the chance'. It's a present.

And you dont have to mock his dad with your stupid pic. Not everybody wants a watch the size of a railway station clock.

If he wants something more sportier, maybe a small chronograph?
Zenith made recently a 1969 el primero (so an original el primero hommage) in 38mm
Thats a very nice watch. 36000bhp, inhouse movement etc.
Maybe a bit over your pricerange though (no idea but I guess about 6k) and maybe hard to get.
Mechanical chronographs probably arent the thinnest watches though. edit: 12.45mm for the 38mm el primero so not too bad.
