I'm just glad to see the hood line where I think it looks best, integrated into the grill. The current trend of the line running a few inches aft of the grill isn't my favorite.

I want those thick Angel Eyes on my car. My current LEDs are so bright it doesn't even look like it has angel eyes if you know what I mean

Still have mine after 13 years. Don't want to part with it. If anything I'd like to teach my daughters how to drive MT with it....

At the moment it is officially for China. But I could see other markets eventually seeing this car especially when their compact segment prefers a boot rather than a hatch. It all comes down to acceptance but the car is being developed for a global response so it could be a possibility.
If it was to be introduced in say a market like North America it would be xDrive and eDrive only. But Europe would probably feature the full engine range from the entry three cylinder up to the M Performance 300+ PS 4 Cylinder.
Why wouldn't the US market see a 300+ hp B48? VW is coming strong with the Golf R and R400 and the Ford Focus RS all with 4 cylinder turbo engines with 290-400 hp. I got that a 6 cylinder engine likely won't fit the frame, but a powerful engine would sell well in the US in this size vehicle.

You know what is funny? Cadillac is readying a sub ATS car, and the last time I checked, they said that it would be RWD. Imagine if Cadillac did a checkmate and offered their car in the US before BMW, and it had RWD as standard and AWD optional.

The concept in exterior and interior is around 90% production reality once the conceptual accessories are removed.
It is a UKL car but available with xDrive and also eDrive.
The car utilises many design features found within a BMW Sedan. Such as a three dimensional character-line and pronounced wheel arches as well as the typical dynamic roof line.
An M Performance model is considered using the upcoming engine that will be featured on the BMW X1, X2 and the MINI Clubman,Countryman and Countryman Coupe.

Plain no more!

Design is back. I hope BMW won't water it down too much come production. It will be intresting to see how this car will affect the design language of 3's replacement down the line.

Car looks great but as far as legroom in the back I think only Chinese kids would fit comfortably in those back seats. I love the looks on the outside though. Back to the 190E series size again. Maybe later they can bring back an engine like what they had in the first M3 that his the market. A more powerful inline 4 would be nice today. One sound I really miss is the sound from that old Mercedes 190 2.5 16V

interesting choice of venue to debut the compact sedan. when I was in China the most popular bummer I saw was 5er, I got told only people who can't afford 5er buys a 3er. this car is not going to be popular down east.

Hi Scott,

I think I speak for many of the members here that we're very grateful to have your insights here in the forum, its great to get a glimpse into how things are shaping up within the corridors at BMW.

So you can analyse where I am coming from, BMW has always been my favourite marque. A brief history of it for me:

Fell in love with BMW when I was 8:
I saw the E38 750iL fire rockets at Mercedes Benzes in Tomorrow Never Dies and always wanted BMWs ever since.

Our family bought an E39 530i some years later. We still own it - as one of my friends from Dingolfing says, "Es ist der Meisterstuck".

I followed suit and bought my first car, an E36 328i which I still own.

I bought a Z4 M Roadster last year in the UK and drove to Germany to visit the Nurburgring, went to BMW M Festival 2014, BMW HQ in Munich, BMW Leipzig and BMW M in Garching.

I also own a BMW E30 318iS and E34 535i.

I'm 26, I sell software and do well for someone of my age. I'm out to buy my first new BMW in the coming few years and currently the only BMWs that I would consider are an F20 of some sort, M235i or M2.

But actually, what I really want is a small BMW sports sedan. This is really what BMW is all about. But, it HAS to be a real BMW. It has to be RWD.

I actually really like the design of this car, I think it looks great, I love the flared front arches and the short proportions. Looks awesome. To me this is all the biggest shame as I really like the look of this car, it looks very BMW, in terms of how a BMW should be though, its not as its UKL-based.

I'm also buying a small get-around car soon and am looking at getting an Alfa Romeo Mito. Its small and sporting, I like this sort of thing. I was looking at a MINI too actually but prefer the Alfa.

The problem for you guys at BMW is that the next batch of Alfa Romeos are going to be RWD, including the future Giulietta which is romoured to in development as a sedan as well. This would be a 1/2 Series sized car also with the intent of delivering a great driving experience, importantly with RWD.

I know you guys did a survey some years ago concluding that "Most 1 Series owners don't even know if their car is RWD" - sure this may be true but does not mean that they do not appreciate the benefits of it.

So in a few years I will be looking for a new car and will probably be looking at a RWD BMW that is fun to drive but will also be looking at other RWD sporty sedans.

Mercedes? Woudn't consider it, don't really like the look of the C Class. But maybe a CLA? Looks nice but as a BMW guy I couldn't bring myself to buy a Mercedes.

Audi A3? I actually really like the look of the new A3 Sedan. Looks awesome and an S3 could be the ticket. Small, sporting and really nice interior. Its Quattro as well so its 'very Audi'.

Alfa Romeo? Absolutely, I have always loved the look of Alfa Romeos and their reliability and quality these days is not bad. If they do a small RWD sedan with a great engine and chassis, I'd go for this.

BMW? If at this point, there is small compact sedan available and its RWD and drives great, I would absolutely buy this and not even consider the competition because I love BMW. But if its a FWD BMW sedan, I'd probably not even consider it is just not 'very BMW'.

I've gone on for a long time but I hope this makes sense.

Do what you do best. Small, RWD sedan/coupes that look awesome and drive awesome. This is what made the world fall in love with BMW in the first place and it has carried the brand for decades and FWDing the sedans is like taking a piss on what BMW is really about.

I'm done.
