F1 2022: Austrian GP - Spielberg (July 10)

When was the track built?

The fearsome, original Osterreichring was originated in 1969 as a replacement for the Zeltweg airfield circuit. The track known today as the Red Bull Ring was more or less created over the winter of 1995-6, when Hermann Tilke was engaged to turn the Osterreichring into a shorter, more modern race track.
When was its first Grand Prix?

The A1-Ring, as it was then called, was opened in 1996, with Formula 1 arriving at the circuit a year later. Jacques Villeneuve won the race, while Jean Alesi had a spectacular crash when his Benetton climbed up the Ferrari of Eddie Irvine. Alesi’s team mate Gerhard Berger, meanwhile, used his home Grand Prix to announce his F1 retirement.
What’s the circuit like?

It’s only wee, bless it, but the Red Bull Ring packs a lot into a short lap. The first half rewards power, as the cars blast along three straights separated by a pair of uphill right-handers. But then as the drivers work their way downhill, the circuit becomes a regular toboggan ride, as the cars canyon through a series of quick corners, including the exhilarating Rindt right-hander, named for Austria’s first F1 champion.
Why go?

Race tracks don’t come much more picturesque than the Red Bull Ring, set in an idyllic natural bowl in the Styrian mountains. That makes for a pleasant environment for a Grand Prix, while if you’re after tourist attractions to visit after the race, look no further than the museum in Graz dedicated to the city’s favourite son: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Where is the best place to watch?

One of Formula 1’s best views is to be had at the Red Bull Ring’s ‘Nord’ grandstand, based around the outside of what used to be the Bosch Kurve at the Osterreichring. Here, you’ll have a great vantage point across much of the track as it drops away from you down the natural slope of the circuit.
One of my favorite tracks on the calendar.

Hoping to see a Red Bull 1-2 here.

VER wins the home race. What to look out for is the W13. It seems like Mercedes can dial in the W13 on non-street circuits so this should be a good race between RB, Ferrari and Mercedes. None are expected to bring any sort of upgrades and in terms of speed, it looks like all 3 are at the same level.

Should be a good one granted there's no huge incidents like Silverstone.

Here comes the flexi-debate of 2022. Flexifloors. Another good deep dive from

So MB, because they didn't have the engineering to possibly find a loophole now are crying 'unfair'. Give me a break. I honestly cannot stand this team or anything they stand for.

At the same time, looks like RB doesn't have a problem here and on top of that, FIA said RB can now cool their fuel.

I'd like to see VER win 3 or 4 of the next 5 races and seal up the WDC and then continue to leave everyone in his wake by setting a new record (beating his own) for most wins, podiums, and points ever in a season.

I just read : For Ferrari there wasn't a party after the race at Silverstone..
According to an insider (mechanic) source : The relationship is changed and currently there are 2 teams now inside the Ferrari team !

IMHO . Ain't no good !

I think Ferrari comes back strong in this race and Merc underperforms.

Red Bull should still lead the way here. The absolute dominance of that Honda engine last year at the Austrian and Styrian GP was wild. Max ran away with the wins.

I have said this before and the more I watch Max the more I think he has more raw talent than Ham ever had. I hope Max goes on to crush all the records too...and is well on his way.

Easily and that's with zero disrespect to Lewis the driver because he's ELITE. Max is next level and his 2021 season is one of the most DOMINANT performances of all time even if you exclude Abu Dhabi for the copers.

Every time you watch Max race - you're watching a legend leave his mark.

His race craft, his aggression, and now maturity really outclasses Ham by good margin. Ham could have NEVER won in the RB car last year but Max would have burned Ham in the same MB car.

Precisely but this is a hard pill to swallow for Lewis fans.

Max can potentially annihilate almost every F1 record. People don't realize what potential his career has.
