Anyone else do this???
Does anyone else look up their old cars VIN to see where they are or if they were sold again?
I recently did my first bmw and found out it was totaled. It brought a tear to my eye, was such a great car. |

Nah, once I get rid of a car it's out of my thoughts.

Yep. I never look back. Sold a lot of cars and never once lifted a finger to find out what happened to them. I guess I just don't get attached to them like some people as I'm usually too smitten with my next vehicle to care about past cars.

Did on my 2013 MKX, it was sold at auction for 2K less of what I traded it in and the buyer had it at 2K above what I got from traded in. So he was going for a 4K profit... I doubt he got that.

Nope. Actually couldn't care less about any former possession. Actually I couldn't care about any current possession. They are all physical things that aren't worth worrying about.

Not done a VIN check but in the UK we have How Many Left which is a make/model search:
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/ On one hand, once I shift a motor it's dead to me. But then, if I spotted it driving past I'd probably get all excited and unnecessary. |

thought about it... i have the vins for all my previous cars dating back 15 years. But then i'm too cheap to pay for a carfax. if someone here has a carfax i'd like to know what happened to my e36, e46, and gtr.

Didn’t even have to vin check. Guy I bought my 87 Supra from messages me some years later saying his gf just bought it off the guy I ended up selling it too so we had a chuckle that it got all the way back to his family. And she bought it from the guy I sold it to after he blew the head gasket.

Yep! I bought my first bimmer (2010 128i e82) in 2013. I kept it for three years before trading it for an LR Evoque in 2016. Fast forward three years, I wanted to buy another 1 Series. I had a buddy run the VIN for my old 128i through the Manheim Auto Auction database. Bingo! Found it for sale at a dealership in PA. After a few phone calls, a deal was made, and I drove the my first bimmer back home to NC a week later. Luckily all the accessories/modifications I had purchased were still on car (BMW Performance wheels, BMW Performance Exhaust, BMW European Blackline taillamps, BMW mud flaps, BMW stainless steel pedal pads).

I did once. I searched for it online and everntually found it. It turns out it was still close to where I lived, I had figured it would be halfway across the country! I went and checked it out in person, went on a couple of drives. It was fun reliving old memories, but after a few drives I was reminded why I sold it in the first place. I decided that the car was better off with its new owner, and I was much better off with the car I have. I decided to say goodbye once and for all and appreciate the car I have today.

I don't search by vin, but I do check ebay and since some of my cars were rare, they do pop up on ebay every so often.
Here's one of my previous cars that I sold in 2016. I made $10k on it and now they are asking $20k more. https://www.ebay.com/itm/11500161036...%7C1000%7C2500

My dealer enrolled my F80 VIN in the CARFAX CareCare program, so I get an email update every time it goes in for service. It's not frequent so I don't bother finding a way to disenroll, but I get a smirk every time I see it. It's more like a grown kid calling me to tell me what they've been up to the last few months rather than me checking up on an ex.
Aside from that, the only time I ever look for an old VIN is when someone's looking for info on a car which may have been mine.
