Tyre life

Hello all, interested in hearing what mileage you're getting from your tyres. Mine are Bridgestone 18 inch on my 330d; I just had first service after 31k Km and there's still a bit of life left in them... I don't burn it up but enjoy some spirited driving so I am impressed; I had to change the rears on my previous F10 520d after about 20k km. Btw, average mpg on the ObD is 48.9 , and I rarely drive like Miss Daisy

Sorry, we Irish work off KM these days, being fully European and all that!!, 31k Km equals about 20k miles!

48.9 mpg average in a 330d you ARE Miss Daisy

From experience I have found a lot depends on where you live and drive.
The roads around the country do seem to eat tyres to greater or lesser extents.

Previous BMW was heading to a tyre change at about 18k miles.
Due I believe to high level of town driving and M54 (crap road lol).
Also it appears with run flats, that tyre pressures are critical when looking at tyre wear.

Current tyres on the 335d have done 12000 miles - 6mm on fronts still and 5mm on rears.

I will change at around 3mm so should get at least 20k out of rears and 30k from fronts.

That's significantly better than my e90 and e46 cars.

Though in reality will change fronts with rears as going to move to non run flats.

I changed at 18k miles - rears were near as dammit 3mm while fronts where 4-5mm but with damaged sidewall on one.

Fronts lasted 44k miles, rears are being done next week just as the car hits 50k.

Shows I spend most of my times going in a straight line on the motorways.

That's pretty awesome. My mini doesn't get much more than that.

My rough arithmetic makes that about the same rate as I'm looking at then. So my current set should take me up to when I would expect to put winters on, and then delay forking out for new tyres till the spring.

Welcome to them if you want to pick them up, but barely worth the cost to fit them surely?

I change at 3mm as I'd rather not have to slow down too much when it rains!

I don't understand why someone with a high performance car would compromise it with crap tyres!

I'm on my 6th 3 series and I've never had to change the front tyres! I usually change the rears between 28k and 30k but that's been it. That includes a 335i and 335d - when I've either gone for the first MOT or traded the car in, the original fronts have still been on.

Will be interesting to see the difference with an xdrive.

From what I can see so far, the fronts wear a bit more, but the rears quite a bit less.
