Apple Watch Touchscreen Seperation

So my Apple Watch touchscreen separated by itself. Is it worth repairing? I didn't drop it or anything it just came off by itself but it is still connected and working. Should I DIY and what method or material adhesive do I use? Maybe just some tape so I can replace the battery easily in the future?

I'd pop by an Apple store if you have one nearby. I'm sure they'd be willing to help.

There is one nearby but I'm trying to avoid paying the apple tax as it is out of warranty. This may be a blessing in disguise if I can fabricate some kind of clasp mechanism as this will make battery replacement easier.

I've had phones replaced by the Apple Store when they're out of warranty. Maybe call them first.

Yeah, in my experience with Apple, they'll replace stuff that isn't physically damaged through neglect. If the screen just popped off, they'll likely replace it for free.

This is true, there was a recall for the battery on my phone after I replaced and it was out of warranty. I'll look into that. Thanks! Maybe if I'm lucky they'll give me a series 1 or 2 as I think mine is series 0 if there is such a thing and they don't make it anymore.

This happens with Series 1 devices--the battery is simply swelling and pushing the screen upward. It may be worth connecting with someone at the Genius Bar to help have this confirmed.

Yeah it does look like the battery is swelling and the screen won't sit flush with the bezel. I left it at home hopefully it doesn't catch on fire!

Keep it unplugged and do try to schedule an appt with a local Genius Bar. A close friend recently had her watch replaced with new.

So I found an article on 9-5 Mac saying coverage for the battery was extended to 3 years so I'm going to the Apple store to get it replaced.

Same thing happened to my watch yesterday. Took it in today, being repaired no charge.

Hopefully OP had similar results.

Yes, I took it in and got a new watch (though not on the same day). Pretty sweet considering the series 1 sells for $249 and I got one for free 2 years later with no apple care.

Yep it was a known issue and they extended the warranty for the battery to 3 years. The replacement is new and has a 90 day warranty. It has a new serial number and says series 1 on the back as well as the WR water proof rating, which weren't on the watches manufactured in 2015 when there was only 1 model. It makes it somewhat of a rare item as they don't make the gold color aluminum watches in series 1 any more and not with the watch band color I have (though I still have the original watch band and just got a new watch).

So I just found this out but apparently there's a difference between series 0 and series 1. So my new watch is a nice upgrade for free as it has a faster dual core processor, which explains why the watch seems faster as it actually is faster. Pretty good given this is an out of warranty replacement and not something you can buy as the gold aluminum Apple Watch is only available as series 3.

You would have to give them your old watch.

I know, I have a series 0 that I don't wear anymore. I wear a series 3 instead.

You can trade it in but maybe you'll get $50 bucks. Though you'd probably get $75-$100 for a series 1. Apple sells them new for $249. Series 1 is a nice performance bump and better battery life too. I'd say it's good enough, the 0 was slow as molasses and battery barely made it through the day. The battery on the series 1 can make it 2 days without charging. The newer processor must be less power hungry. I do like the series 3 with cellular and gps so you can go running with it and don't need your phone with you and can also stream music.

Yeah, that is the reason I got the series 3. Come to find out, you can't stream
Pandora or those programs without the phone nearby, but you can stream Apple Music. Go figure. The Series 3 I have lasts about 2 full days as well. My original one lasted a full day but definitely not 2.

they'll replace it free of charge regardless of warranty no questions asked. this is a battery swelling issue.

the same thing happened to me a few weeks back on my apple watch (which i got on launch day in 2015, well passed warranty). they asked what happened and i simply said that i took it off the charger and the screen had popped out. they send out a pre-labeled package for me to send. they sent out a refurbished device which i received in three days.

contact apple support and they'll take care of it for you.

So apparently MacBook pros also are having expanding battery issues.
