Alex Zanardi in serious condition after crash

https://www.bbc.com/sport/motorsport/53115622

Poor guy, a true hero. I'll never forget that Indycar crash.

Pray for his recovery.

He was just interviewed by "ON THE GRID" Youtube site a day or two back.

Memories of Nicky Hayden... hope things turn out good.

Sad to say it looks a lot like the best outcome will be shumacher-ish. In a report it was stated he had a sunken forehead, which means there WILL be brain damage to the frontal lobe, which pretty much is involved in everything relating to function\personality\memory etc etc .

Lets hope he can recover and has a speedy recovery, but imho its unlikely . Always liked him since I watched him in CART.

That is just horrible. I didn't know the situation was that serious.

Pray for Alex.

My friend . The skull of his forehead is broken with very serious brain and eye damage .
His helmet was pulled off by the impact of the accident .He has also large blood clots on his brain .
That's why a 2nd brain surgery was required ...
Not good !

Of course and when Alex was out of control,as reported, not being able to brake or steer coherently then the closing speed must not bear thinking about and the 'pudding bowl' bike helmet offered little protection.
He always tried so hard in every race that he was in.

As you know my friend , it was a handbike in a downhill straightaway just before a slight curve in the road .
This means Alex "lay flat" with his "head forward" ....
Damn this is so sad !

My friends -
Such a tragic time for Alex and his family; we are hopeful he survives and recovers to the extent that his quality of life is the best that it can be based upon his his reality.

Yes mate . It really is very sad .
Was reading yesterday about his latest situation and condition . According neurologists Zanardi had a 3th medical brain surgery with a face reconstruction .
Probably if he wakes up , he will be blind by the damage of his eyes . At the scene of the accident one eye was already gone ...
Very ! Very sad indeed !

We know a head into a lorry bumper with cycle going downhill only means one thing...Myself as I'm sure everyone on here is praying at least some sight and sound returns to Zanardi.

Alex has endured so very much in this life - the 2001 tragedy seemed unsurvivable....may he survive the unsurvivable yet again.
