It's not an m5. But a poor mans version of it.
I have had 3 bmw e39s. The first two being inline 6 528is. Than I got a 7 series e38 v8. Loved the m62 for its power and mpg highway. Traded it for this thing a few months ago. 2001 540i M 115,000 miles 6speed So far, I have done the oil pan gaskets, upper and lower timing gaskets, valve cover gaskets, the timing chain guides were in great condition ironically. Also did the transmission mounts, fluid service, rear diff service. Still looking to do all ignition coils, spark plugs, and rear main seal & the shift selector rod because after I did the transmission mounts I noticed my gear shifter vibrating in 1st second and Reverse. Flex guibo rubbing - turned it to be the selector rod bent from previous slack in destroyed mounts. Now with the new fit on new mounts it rubs. - sheesh. Just got the paint corrected yesterday with a ceramic coating. Anyone other ones out there ? |

Just picked up a 540i 2003 2 weeks ago... round trip road trip was 2600 miles for it! NYC ti Kansas & back... 70K miles Msport, but it's auto bc my wife wants to drive it aswell LOL
Right when I got home from the 1300 mile drive back it started misfiring, changed out 1 coil and it's been fine. I just ordered the dynavinN7pro and plan on doing the BAVSOUND speaker upgrade aswell... doing the valve cover gaskets, timing chain gaskets and trans flush next week. good luck on ur car also, I've read that doing the timing chain tensioner is a good way to have long life from the guides and chain..
