BMW announces 2010 GRAND-AM race series contingency award program

BMW has announced a comprehensive contingency award program for BMW cars and BMW-powered cars in the 2010 GRAND-AM series races. They have fared very well so far in the 2010 GRAND-AM series. BMW race cars took #1-2 positions in the 2010 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and #2 in the Rolex 24 at Daytona held Jan 29-31.

PRESS RELEASE:

BMW Posts 2010 GRAND-AM Contingency Program

2.11.2010 | Press Release

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 9, 2010… BMW has announced a comprehensive contingency award program with increased awards for competitors racing BMW cars and BMW-powered cars in the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

“2010 marks the 35th anniversary of BMW of North America and we are pleased to increase our support for both professional and private teams racing in GRAND-AM events,” said Martin Birkmann, BMW of North America Motorsport Manager. “BMW cars and BMW-powered racers had an excellent start to the year at Daytona and we wish them continued success throughout the season.”

In the January 30-31 Rolex 24 at Daytona, the No. 01 TELMEX BMW Riley, fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, finished second in the classic twice-around-the-clock endurance race with drivers Scott Pruett, Memo Rojas, Justin Wilson, and Max Papis finishing one position ahead of the No. 95 Crown Royal/NPN Racing BMW Riley driven by Christophe Bouchut, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Lucas Luhr, Scott Tucker, and Richard Westbrook

The day prior, two BMW M3s raced to a 1-2 finish in the Fresh From Florida 200, the season-opening race of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. In the Grand Sport class, Matt Plumb and Gianluis Bacardi, driving the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing M3, took the overall win by only .107-seconds over Charles Espenlaub and Charles Putman driving the No. 48 Fall-Line Motorsports M3. In the Street Tuner class, Seth Thomas and Bill Heumann finished second in their No. 81 BimmerWorld/GearWrench BMW 328i.

The Rolex Sports Car Series and the Continental Sports Car Challenge will hold their second rounds at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 5 and 6.

More information about 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge can be found at www.grand-am.com.

So what is the actual contingency awards program? I would like details, or a link to details. Thanks!

Also, would bimmerpost.com/m3post.com be interested in sponsoring a car in this year's One Lap Of America event? I am looking into running this even in my '08 E92 M3. I last ran it in an under-powered Mazda RX-7 with a good result (2nd in SSGT2 class, 6th overall).

You'd get two weeks of advertising on both sides and hood of the car, plus a good chance of international coverage via Motor Trend Magazine, motortrend.com, and elswhere (youtube.com, etc).

Do you have a co-driver? I was going to run this in my e90 M3 but decided against putting the miles on my car coming from CA and already having 29K on my 1 yr old car.

First, I need to come up with the funding. If that happens, I have three local friends who want to ride (prefer just one, but will consider two since there are rear seats). Besides, I don't even know your name let alone anything about you

Just throwing it out there. No biggie. I have 7 years professional motorcycle racing experience and 2 years racing M3s for a well known So Cal BMW tuner. PM me if you want more details but it sounds like you are all set with your buddies.

Nevermind, I found the info I was looking for:

Nice, but not nearly enough to entice competition. Barely even covers entrance fees, and only if you win. Mazda's payout is better.
