Happy to report that the SoftPaws are doing well. They don't even know they have them on. As their nails get longer the caps will fall off. So far I've only had to do a couple of them. they still scratch the furniture but it's not ruining it which is such a relief! Highly recommend this for those looking for a solution

No room in that bathroom. It’s a really small half bath.

His litter box is cleaned daily. He is a bit OCD though. After reading through responses I believe it’s due to medical issues. Vet gave him meds for hyper thyroid. Although I’m not a cat fan I know he’s getting old and don’t look forward to the day a decision has to be made.

If so, how long is the training? You said you thought about three months above - I'm guessing that is to date - how much longer till he's done and back?

Are you pleased so far? Was it fairly costly? As you can tell, I've been intrigued by this for a while. Have been thinking a little bit about it in case we get a Shepherd for the next dog, but that is hopefully still another 5 years or so (hopefully).
This is our work dog. He's been in service two years. The officer holding the leash is his current handler. The dog was trained when we bought him. It took about three months for the handler to learn how to use the dog. He goes to continuing training twice a month. I can't remember what it cost us, close to $10k US for the dog. I think we got him from a place in Pennsylvania. All our department has ever had are Shepherds so we don't know anything else. I just help out since I'm familiar with everything.

I have a pet Shepherd at home and she was raised with cats so she acts more like a cat. Yesterday there was a toad in the pile of mulch that I had delivered and instead of digging in the mulch like a normal dog, my Shepherd pounced on it like a cat.

If he is going to piss somewhere other than his litter box, I'd rather it be in the corner of the bathroom on the tile.

Additionally, the half bath is at the foot of the steps. The steps are wood, the 1st floor hallway is tile. When Oscar comes flying down the steps and hits the tile he slides. When we first moved in, I kept the bathroom door closed. Oscar hit the door a few times in his slides, so I keep the door open so he doesn't knock himself out.

Yup - that's about right - he's one aloof motherf**cker.

He's actually pretty self cleaning. I don't typically need to do much in regards to keeping him clean and brushed. He was waiting for me to open the patio door so he can go out on the screen porch. He's a spoiled brat sometimes.

Hamilton is the same way but acts like a damn dog. When he wants outside he will paw at the door, get excited and run around the house from door to door. Then when I reach to open the door he will do the Maine Coon chirp business like he's saying "Thank you". Of course when the door gets opened, he turns right back into a cat by not going out, standing half in/half out of the door way scanning the perimeter and debating on whether or not he actually wants to go outside. This is usually followed by a nudge of human foot and some form of "get out there ya bastard" comment.

Ah yes, I see. That does complicate things.

Good luck. Hopefully it just passes by. Had the same thing for a period with our last cat. Went on periodically for a couple weeks then gone, never to return or to be explained. Cats are fickle creatures.

....... Catching up with super dog Apollo, the worlds most neurotic dog. We have had some luck walking him at the local nature preserve the last two or three months, but he gets more skittish every time we go. Something (there's no telling what it is) will spook him and he wants to go back to the car. Strangely, he always seems to know where the car is. So now for getting out, it's the dog park or backyard only.

Ha! I bet he feels like a criminal. I don't know how you guys do it? My wife's Nissan Armada the interior had gashes in all the interior plastic trim pieces from their nails when they would climb over from the back seats to the front
