Using aDown Pipe - Issues, Smell, Emissions-Exhuast Options
I have read around that some people have gotten rid of their down pipe due to smell. Here is what I am wanting from an exhaust regardless of "good sound" which is an opinion. Wanting to keep budget under 2K.
1. Power Gains 2. Ability to still use Comfort and lower sounds 3. Little to no smell, emission or check engine issues 3. Minimal droning at highway speeds and low revs Options as of current: 1. M Performance + ER Downpipe 2. Bastuck Catback Exhaust 3. Manhart Exhaust 4. Castro Motorsport 5. Super Sprint 6. Meisterschaft Thoughts? Last edited by Captain_Burgundy; 06-11-2014 at 10:28 PM.. |

MPE + ER has been absolutely phenomenal. No smell (that I can tell) and no drone. How ever my previous N54 engine had downpipes and stock exhaust and that was not as loud as this N55 with MPE and ER DP.

Is there a CEL with this setup?

There is a CEL with any catless downpipe setup. The smell isn't too bad unless you're stationary in an enclosed spot for awhile.
You can always go with a high-flow catted downpipe if you don't want any smell. |

Manhart has a catted down pipe, but it is very expensive, I was quoted over 1500. I think I am going to pull the trigger on their sport/race axle back exhaust (1550), will let everyone know the results.

No DP on my new M235i, but LOVE my MPE. Great sound with burps/gargles during shifts in sport mode but totally civilized in comfort or when on the freeway. No drone at all.

Good choice! The engine creates music when you give it the right hardware .
