Bimmerista, yes your car went 170 km/h. I was following you Actually, at one point I was trying to catch up to you, I went 180 km/h (1200 on odo). It is true that the car can get so fast to these speeds. One need to be careful. You started a hell of a thread did you notice. Now everyone wants to beat each other

Have you notice we haven't heard anything about our girls on the forums. Girls ? It doesn't have to be that fast. Until I followed Bimmerista I made 145 km/h (pretty sissy ain't I ? ).

If you think this thread is bad for people trying to beat each others speed, take a look at this one

I cringe when I hear (read) of people driving at speeds in excess of 100 mph on public roads in traffic, even light traffic. In my opinion this is irresponsible behavior. I acknowlege that I have driven at such speeds on public roads but have only done so in the wide open spaces on excellent speed rated tires with miles of visibility and no one else in the car or in sight.

i definitly agree with you, but im a BMW owner..not a saint

like ive said i tend to only mess around on the toll road since there is rarely anyone on them at such odd times at night.

140 MPH, smooth as silk, the car really feels like it gets stuck to the road with the increased wind flow over the top of the car

i went 120mph in my camry. Wouldnt let me go any faster. Did 100mph on the way home right after pickin up my 330i from the dealer. Fastest on the 330 was 110. I used to be a speed demon- i would hit about 105 by the time i get onto the free way from the on ramp. Got pulled over this one time for going ONLY 80. F*king killed my spirit. I dont go faster than 105 anymore.

Still amazing to see ppl who speed like crazy and lived to tell about it...ROCK ON!!!

Amen to that!
If it's open highway and ur afraid to go fast then there's something wrong witchu. I've never been on empty highways before and did 120. Maybe there's something wrong with me...fuck it...

Doing 275km/hr on Quebec roads on the highway at night is asking for death. Fortunately he didn't take anyone else with him except for his passengers. I don't know about you but I'd be pretty pissed if some asshole topping out his Porsche to impress some girls in the car took out my sister or mother driving the speed limit in the opposite direction.

That said, I took my car up to 210km/hr as posted earlier in the thread. I did it in perfect weather conditions in daylight on a freshly paved highway that I know well, with nobody else in the car, and I could see there were no cars well ahead. I also had my runflats on at the time, I wouldn't do it with my current winters. I agree with what you're saying, but it's not caring about endangering other people that may not share your philosophy that I would have to disagree with.

I remember that. I think they determined he hit a pothole or something. Supposedly at that speed the centrifugal force on the tire makes it so that even a small puncture will instantly tear the tire apart and off the wheel.

You know, you people always do that... You always try to justify draconian laws, the Nurf-padding of the world, bit brother cameras everywhere and other general "Protect Us From Everything" crap with some argument along the lines of "How would like it if it was YOUR brother in law's former room mate who sliped on a bar of soap in the shower?" or "If it only saves ONE life."

You see, I just have come to the realization that you can't codify everything into a protectionist law. The world is a generally difficult place and none of us are going to be getting out of it alive. Death, pain and tragedy are horrible but they are part of the rich pallett of flavors that make up the whole experience. Like I said, 99.9999% of the time, people driving very fast do nothing more then raise their own pulse. If my time to pass comes in that 0.00001% of the time when it all goes wrong, so be it.

Jeremy Clarkson put it best in his review of the Audi TT. He commented about how Audi fixed the safety problems it had in high speed corners when it first came out by saying:

"Now, the Audi TT is absolutly not dangerous. In fact, it has been turned into something far worse: it is boring."

As long as you use a little bit of sense, you should be ok. I hope the people going over 120 arent around traffic.

What exactly are these draconion laws you speak of as if I brought them up? The part where I posted earlier I've driven my E90 at more than double the speed limit? What you're saying has no relevance to what I'm saying, I don't even know why you quoted my post.

You keep bringing up the example of slipping on a bar of soap in the shower and dying. That is a freak accident. It isn't comparable or relevant to what I'm saying, which is that common sense should be a factor in deciding when to test the top speed of a car, and that doing it in a way that doesn't endanger others is common human courtesy. Some people would say there is no "safe" way to drive a car at 200+ km/hr which I would have to argue with, however I don't know how you can argue that common sense isn't a factor and that accidents like this are completely random.

The funny thing is even though I'm arguing with you because you're completely overlooking what I'm trying to say and your points are nonsense, I actually agree with what I think you're trying to say.

hit 200km briefly tonight on an empty 404 and she still a lot more to give...

quite frankly, I think all is well if that porsche dude only takes himself a trip to another dimension. He gets his smile for sure. Just was not sure if the other 2 persons worths going with him. You can say they should know better but many people are really not that informed.

I'm an American, I get a bit carried away. I've got a gun though, so everything is going to be OK.

Seriously, you are right. What riled me up was the line about my sister getting killed by someone driving fast. I don't have a sister...

About 110mph on a remote section of I-16 in Georgia to humiliate a guy who had strangely tailgated me for miles on a stretch of road where no other cars were in sight. Feels like about 70mph in most cars. Totally confident at that speed.

Daylight conditions, dry roads. Not even remotely the same as driving through the city at high speed or at night.

You don't have to nerf pad the world. Nor should you behave like a fool. JUDGEMENT. Get it.

112MPH accellerating through 4th gear in NH got me my 40 day walking papers on a first offense... had the car 2 weeks...won't be trying that again anytime soon. That moment of pleasure also cost me $600 in fines and $450 in hotel bills... making payments on a 6 week old car thats sitting in the garage is a killer
