We hit it hard in Rome but were able to see a lot.

Last time we were in Europe we flew into Paris. We had the first 3 nights booked but didn't know where we were going from there. We were thinking south of France over to Spain. We ended up in a Venice exhibit in Paris and our route changed. We went Paris-Strasbourg-Zurich-Chur-Tirano-Milan-Venice.
In general, look for the places where the locals eat or get their cofee.
I had that experience in venice a few years back. The best pizza we got, was at a local place next to the hotel we stayed in, where locals came taking their dog with them and greeting the chefs like they were familiy.
Inside Venice it was bad and overprized food.

Never been to Venice but this is what I hear all the time that inside there is a rip off for tourists.

Passau, Germany.

I bet that car was a bear to get through TÜV.

I sort of made it easy by displaying the name on the building. I'm sure Germany folks can tell by the license plates.

We loved Passau. I never expected to see this oversized orange monster parked on the street there.

We enjoyed Passau as well.

That car reminds me of the time I saw a Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am rumbling down the streets of a village just miles from the DMZ in Korea. Totally out of place.

I was in Venice a few years ago and went to Murano to look for some blown glass for the house. After finding a nice piece I asked the salesman where a good place for lunch was. He immediately started to point just down the walk to the very touristy eateries. I listened politely and then asked him where he took his SO for lunch. He then told me about this great little spot on the next island over, Burano, called Gatto Nero. He was right, it was wonderful and away from the crowds. And yes dogs were welcome. This fellow's name is Arturo. I'd estimate he weighs about 60kgs (130lbs).

Styling cues match up and my brother had one in the late '70s.

We’re lucky enough to have been to Venice a few times and the last time, about four years ago, we spent a week in a suburb called Saint Elena. It was great to walk home from the city at night and hear the locals singing and living.

I have to say though a lot of the restaurants are no longer owned by the locals. They have a local as the front person but behind the scenes no Italians. That’s all I’ll say about that!

I believe that was the island used in the movie, Cast Away, starring Tom Hanks.

^^^Eagles Nest

We couldn't go up because of the recent snow. Had to settle for a pic from the village below.
