Any experience with Jet-Hot coating ?

I have brand new Active Autowerke downpipes and was looking into ceramic coating them to help keep engine bay temps down. Does anybody have any experiences or recommendations for similar companies in LA ? I know the f95 engine bay gets super hot and that's currently in LA, I can't imagine when I take this thing to Texas in the summer. First time I ever look into anything like this and I found Jet Hot coating and they seem to be really good but it seems every place has their own "magic" recipe not sure if its all the same or what

I have the Jet-Hot coating on a set of shorty headers on my sons 302 powered 98 Ranger 2wd. I also had my 128i headers ceramic coated locally as that was all that was available.

Both have similar heat rejection capabilities under the hood but the ceramic is thin compared to the JetHot.

Not an issue if you don’t need to bend/dent/modify the headers to fit, the Jet Hot coating easily accommodated denting the Ranger header to clear the steering shaft without flaking or chipping which is actually quite amazing…we expected it to come off when we pressed a 1” aluminum pipe into the header pipe to create a dent where the steering shaft would hit the pipe.

If money or availability is not an issue then Jet Hot is the way to go, it lays on like thick galvanize compared to ceramic which is like water when it’s sprayed on.

You can get ceramic coating in various Color’s too which Jet Hot cannot, take your pick…both perform similarly under the hood with Jet Hot taking the mod crown for flexibility.

DO NOT USE JET-HOT! I had Jet-Hot coat my new motorcycle headers and they turned out complete GARBAGE. It looked like they spray painted the pipes due to uneven coating and runs (how a powder coating turns into runs like wet paint is beyond me). Claimed 10-14 business days for turn around. Took 2 months to get back to me. When I called them to ask why their quality was crap, they wanted me to send the pipes back for inspection and re-coating. I would have to pay for return shipping and it would take another "10-14 business days". I tell everyone not to use them. Maybe the other location is better at coating but I don't trust them. Any powder coating shop can use a ceramic coating. Wish I went that route the first time.

I would go ceramic then, I dropped a 1/2” drive ratchet during install of the motor right onto a bend on the pipe and it did not chip.

My guy offered flat black or silver, I used flat black for my 128i header in ceramic.

The Jet Hot coating is not the most attractive for sure but our pipe coated by the mfg (Sanderson) was well done if not show quality.

The ceramic is smooth and minty looking in comparison, however you can’t even see the pipe on a 1-series anyway…who cares.

I've used Jet Hot on multiple builds.

Specifically Jet-Hot 2000.

All turbocharged applications.

Had to have one recoated after about 4.5 years.

Lead times are not the best
and their quality control did have some
variability, overall I'm still satisfied.

1 set ductile iron manifolds.
1 set stainless manifold tubes and downpipes.
Several turbine housings.

I scratched a set of downpipes when R&Ring for maintenance, and Jet-Hot recoated for free (shipping cost).

It's been several years since I've used them, but on the turbo cars that I have with Jet Hot 2000 coated manifolds and downpipes they still look and perform as advertised.

I did ceratoke 1800 on my downpipes but like the dummy I am, I didn't do before and after tests.

I have used Swaintech with older cars, VW A1 chassis stuff and BMW E30 E36 stuff without issues. I live in the NorthEast so it was a plus on having them coated they did not rust.

Find a local coater in your area. Literally google "powdercoating" on google maps and call places and ask if they do coating on exhaust manfiolds with cerakote.

Done and done. Jethot is garbage now as others have mentioned and swaintech is just an old brand.

You don't need to send out your parts anywhere unless you live in the sticks with no coaters around.
