Calipers chipping paint...anyone else?!
Anyone else having this issue on their calipers. Noticed it the other day while washing the car. Had it in to BMW over the weekend for a Strut recall and yearly maintenance...SA said it is not covered under warranty.
It is the passenger side rear and the only one doing it. If it were one chip it'd say rock, but with as many as there are...I say not likely. Thoughts from the priesthood |

If I was going to think outside the box I'd say they damaged it during the service.
But good luck proving that to the dealer. Either way they should cover it under warranty aka their mess up. |

It wasn't during service for a fact. The damage was done prior and I had them look at it during the service.

brake fluid eats thru paint. it looks splashed on, so its either that or some other paint thinner.

I believe that the M2 brake caliper paint is none of the existing BMW blue body colors.
Some reported to have contacted Brembo (producer) about the color of the BMW M brake calipers, but the latter allegedly answered that another contractor paints the calipers in "M Sport Light Blue".

135i with the stock Brembos suffer from the same issue. There's nothing to prevent this from happening, I am afraid.

What kind of wheel cleaner are you using? Are you taking the car through a car wash? I had a 2010 135i with over 90K miles and the caliper finished looked like the day it left the factory.

Plus OP isn't guessing at what the damage is .. he is the one seeing it and stated what it is ... Olgunan my best guess was road debris causing chips at the rear that is on the outside of the roadway most ( due to debris ). Keep in mind that the quarter panels on the car take a lot of impacts.. However another US owner said his is driver side only so... no idea. |
