My estimated Kia Stinger GT specs and pricing
Nothing official, but I have been doing Kia Stinger surveys for a few months now.
BMW better step up their game. Also designed by former *BMW M* Vice President of Engineering Albert Biermann and Peter Schreyer. Yeah, this should be a sweet car. |

It’s interesting in an Alfa Romeo Guilia kind of way, but I stay away from Kia and Hyundai.

The Kia Stinger-GT with 365HP under the hood looks really good !

I’ve seen frends’ Hyundais and Kias and while the build quality and materials are lightyears ahead of where they were in the 90s, it seems there is a reason why they have to offer that long warranty. I also seriously considered a Genesis coupe 7 years ago and ended up with a Mustang. I felt there was a material cheapness to the electronics, the plastic trim pieces, even the tow hook cover fell off while the salesman showed it to me and couldn’t get it back on lol. I was like eh, I’ll look elsewhere.

I remain skeptical that this car will change the game much because at ~4000lbs. with 365hp, it isn't going to be moving the needle much on the excitement meter.
Hyundai/Kia either need some much smaller RWD cars where a turbocharged V6 can make for a competitive high performance machine, or they need a turbocharged V8. Alternatively, at the very least, get that V6 up and over 450hp. Or, they could go the hybrid route too, but then you are adding even more weight. |

My main concern would be service and maintenance. Back when I had my monster diesel T-Reg they barely knew what to do with it at the dealer. I don't imagine many at the Kia dealers will have any idea what to do with this car. Would be analogous to taking an R8 into VW for service until they get to know the car a bit.

Except that's not how it's being positioned:

So no, its not an M3 competitor - nor would anyone think so. But, in fact, it's not even really a 340i (or, soon, M340i) competitor. So what is it? It's kind of in limbo. It's not really an exciting new entry in the world of cheap, practical, performance. It's just a pretty cool car, (that, don't get me wrong, I am glad Kia has built), but it's not a game changer. Now, a future "Stinger N" (or whatever the Kia equivalent of a Hyundai N brand would be, if such a thing is even to exist) with specs more like what I mentioned in my last post - that would be something to shake things up a bit. Hopefully that's in the cards, but it's probably three years out at best so they had better plan for the next ante up. A C43 with a 410hp+ inline six is probably less three years out as well, just for example. |

Let me get my Indian Jones decrytion device to read the specs.
The stinger is too heavy. Won't be as competitive as I thought against the upper level 3 series and a4. Kind of seems like it'll be like the new Fusion. High expectations, but under whelming. Idk. |

Right, and that's exactly where I am coming from. These imitators are not making the cut. Nice vehicles, yes, but ultimately not a substitute for the stalwarts.
