2020 Republican Nominee

Who do the Republicans nominate?

Right now it looks like Trump.

If there is substance enough to impeach (House), Trump may still run, but will the Rís put up any alternate candidates in the primaries?

If there is enough substance for Senate removal, who gets the nomination?

I donít see it being Pence, I doubt if he can carry much more than Trumpís water.

While weíre at it, does Pence remain Trumpís VP candidate this time around or does he make a change (and if so, who)?

Whatís the ticket?

In 2016, I thought I would be ok with Pence if something happened to Trump. But his support of Trumps lies really make him an unviable candidate. I think anyone who is a Trump loyalist would lose to the Dem nominee.
Lots of names out there. For many on here, their defence of 2nd amendment rights will be the only issue.

I could get behind Haley, Kasitch, Rubio, Romney, lots of others.

My opinion?

I see a near 0% chance that Trump would not run in 2020, unless he was full on booted from office via a guilty verdict at an impeachment trial.

I also see it being a near 0% chance that he would change VP's - I think that would shake too much up and most republicans like Pence and feel he is very 'safe' as compared to Trump.

I do agree that Pence probably wouldn't be the nominee if Trump got booted from office. In that case, the most likely candidate in my opinion would be Romney. Only issue there, is that he would be absolutely trounced by Warren in the general election.

Romney is the Biden/Gore of the R’s... Too bland. My sense is if nominated, he loses because he can’t motivate voters to get out on Election Day.

Who do you think gets the nomination?

On Pence as VP, wouldn’t it make more sense to “groom” the next prez candidate with this slot? In 2016 it was still not clear how far “right” Trump would actually go, and Pence anchored the right voters. Now we know Trump is well right, so maybe he chooses a more moderate veep with presidential possibility?

Trump Haley would be kryptonite, not that Warren won't get pancaked by Trump Pence already.

* States cancelling primaries *
Trump is the horse. And no, he's not getting impeached or BleachBitted.

He almost beat Obama, who is one of the strongest Democratic candidates in the last 50 years. I never fell for Obama's Kool-Aid, but even many on here did.

Warren is no Obama, as far as oratory and ability to run for higher office.

Everyone mentions Haley - She is pretty decent, but there will be too many comparisons to Palin.

If there had to be a new VP - I would go with Rice.

How about we bring up the fact the the GOP has canceled primaries. If trimp is such a great candidate, let others run against him and allow the voters to decide. Why is the GOP stacking the deck?

It will be interesting to see if the impeachment process forces the GOP to find a way to hold primaries, or uses another candidate selection method - assuming that Trump is either impeached or too damaged to run (which is the premise of this thread, although not at all certain at this point).

As far as I know primaries are not sacrosanct - they are the typical process by which the parties choose a slate to nominate at their convention. But I can envision other processes.

They are being strategic and concentrating all of their resources and firepower on the opposition rather than doing the opponents job for them. And as far a stacking the deck goes, Super-Delegates were the ultimate stacked deck and we know what happened there.

This is what transparency looks like.

I really like our current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Former Army Officer (military); CIA Director (intelligence); House Representative (legislator); and now our Secretary of State (diplomat).

Not if his father had been the mailman on my street. I cannot believe how many times they've screwed up mail delivery in my neighborhood.
