New side project: BMW cafe racer

Well got me a new side project building a cafe racer, bought the bike off ebay for $400 and im pretty excited to get it done is a nice switch to work on something different.
Waiting on parts for the car to be done so this will keep me busy for a few months

Here is a pic after it was delivered

Time to take her apart and re-build

Lovely but you need a BMW Motorad flag now too. I am considering getting an S1000R to add to the collection. I also like the R Nine T or whatever it’s called.

Sounds like a fun project.

I'm curious what year/model of BMW that is..? And was there a particular technical reason you chose it as the basis for your project, or was price price the primary factor?

Same here. Would be great, if not too much of a hassle OP, to keep a running list of parts and costs.

I'd like to tackle something similar at some point but gauging an all-in end result cost would be super helpful. Realize actual mileage may vary based on choices each of us make, but at least a ballpark idea nice to know.

Awesome! I've been trying to find a r100/7 to buy for a couple months now. Haven't found anything nearby.

I was curious so I did some searching and it appears to be a circa 1990-ish K75 S, like this one:

http://www.motorcycles-bike.com/Moto...75-S-8502.html

Some info from Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_K100#K75

Actually, if this info:

http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/schemepages/schemek75s.htm

is correct, the Royal Blue color was only produced in 1992 (the last year for that generation of the K), meaning it must be 1992 like the one I linked to.

BMW k75 1985 it was last ran on 2011 so i have to refresh everything and get her back on to top shape, lucky me it was garage stored.

I wanted to buy a k100 but did not find one and found this great deal on the K75 so went with that.

So far bought and install

All that came to $100 bucks

I pick this model cause the finish result looks amazing i will show you guys one that is finish and you can get an idea of what im going for

This one is from some buddys in Australia, they are bulding the seat and tail section for me.

If you're going to build a vintage style cafe racer, you have to read Song of the Sausage Creature by Hunter S. Thompson.

Got all the extra fairings of the bike and it looks better also found a can of plastidip and did the back wheel to get an idea is going to be powder coated later.

was searching online for some rearsets and only found one company over seas that makes them but they were $500, so pass on that made my own and i like them

My wife always wanted a Ducati Monster but has lately had her sights set on a cafe bike. There was a TV series we were into a while back where they high lighted cafe bikes and the builds. Very kool stuff, we both love the vintage stuff more and more. I think that's because were both getting older now. She drives a '79 mini, did a body off a few years back and put a 1275 cooper motor in it, cam, weber downdraft, heads, pistons and header. Makes about 100 hp. What a hoot to drive, when she lets me. This year we bought a '71 30' Trojan boat, classic lines real 60's- early 70's vibe. Just too much fun. Anyway, the bike looks great. I don't think I'll send this thread to my wife or she'll have me looking for one for her.

Peace out.

We own a 2013 Monster 1100evo Diesel. It’s basically my wife’s bike and I ride a Diavel. It’s always fun to switch because despite 60 less HP (Diavel is a beast), the Monster weighs like 100lbs less so it’s very fast and agile. It’s a perfect naked bike IMO. She has no problem keeping up with me except in the straights where I can pull away.

This is a cool project and something like this would be a nice third motorcycle for me. We looked at the Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer but it uses the older 797 and I wish it had the 821 instead. I’m also in love with the Hyperstrada.

That looks fantastic. Wow! If yours comes out even close to that, you are going to have an awesome machine.

Nice. Every time I look at Ducatis I end up gravitating toward that bike. Or the Hypermotard SP too, but I really love that deep green Monster.
